Amazon 10-inch tablet PC to start mass production in 1Q12

It starts shipping in October--I assume that is October 2011. But mass production does not begin before 2012? So what happens to orders between October and next year?

If info about the 7 inch is true, then they should be announcing AND taking pre-orders any day now.

Read it more carefully. It says that the 7" model is due to start shipping in October, the 10" in Q1 2012.

There are two different products: 7" and 10.1" mentioned in this news. Then there is no contradiction.

If it starts shipping in October, shouldn't we be getting some info about it by now? I mean, october is almost next month!

Amazon don't tend to "pre-announce" products; they only get announced when they're ready to ship.

The K3 was pre-announced... It was the first thing I even ever pre-ordered!

Amazon's recent policy is to announce with a 30 day lead time so anybody who ordered recently can return the older model, creating a 60-day window for buyers to choose and cutting down the buyer blindsiding. And then they ship a week or so early. So it comes out to a 2-3 weeks pre-order window which gives them time to sort out the stampede.

Well, this is kind of good news and bad news. Good news is that Amazon will probably be announcing something anytime now. Bad news is that I'll have to wait until next year for the 10.1" tablet, as I have zero interest in a 7" tablet.
