But I very much doubt that the Amazon App Store is going to be offering "rival" reading apps, for example. Can you get the B&N Nook app from it?

I hear you. My preference is for a 10" as well. I'm willing to get THEIR 7" in the meantime if it's lighter than the NOOKcolor. If it's worth keeping when the 10" comes out, I'll give it to one of the children and grab another one for the sibling. I've been wanting to get them a tablet for reading. Passed on the NOOKcolor because of the weight and ebook offering. This may work out better because it'll be nicely integrated with Amazon's offerings and hopefully their on point recommendations!

The only bad part is i heard the screen is good not great. I'd like to see it in person. If i wasn't 100% happy with my nook with CM7 I would have picked the Acer up by now. By the time my nook dies Amazon will be in the market so I'll have even more choices. Acer Ionica 100 review Last edited by =X=; 08-31-2011 at 12:50 PM.

It'll happen; and it's no big deal for the average consumer.

Harry - Aldiko, Kobo, Moon Reader, Audible, Mantano and others are already available in the Amazon's app store http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss...fix=reader+app Nook is not but that may be B&Ns decision since we see Kobo there |

Also, the battery life of just 5 hrs, ideally it should have been in the range of 7-10 hrs. Again it's just review and I have not seen it in person so nothing much to comment about it.

It is highly unlikely that Amazon will be selling a tablet outside of the US in 2011; I'd be willing to go out on a limb and say through all or most of 2012 as well. Currently, Amazon does not offer any digital media, except ebooks, outside of the US. That field is exclusively left to Apple iTunes and regional players. So -- no games for Kindle, no Android apps for smartphones, no movies or TV shows for laptops and tablets. Nada. They even block blogs to most markets and don't offer a lot of magazines to Kindle buyers outside of the US even when those magazines are widely sold in local markets (the New Yorker, for example, is not sold to Canadians for Kindle). |

If Amazon delivers a closed system they will be shooting themselves in the foot. They've already committed to the Android platform with their Appstore why backtrack and make an Amazon only solution. =X=

Because the purpose of launching this tablet is precisely to sell content - sell it in their "closed system". I'm certain that a few techies will scream blue murder about it being "closed", just like they did with the Nook Color, but, nevertheless, it will sell like the proverbial hot cakes.

I replaced the stock ROM, so it's basically a regular Android tablet. It's great in that respect. The screen is fabulous. I'm just tired of the weight and would like something with a microphone. Whatever I get will need to have a great screen (resolution/dpi) because it will primarily be used as an eReader.
