				B&N Fails to Deliver

If you received a Nook for Christmas and had trouble downloading books, it's not you or your device, it's Barnes & Noble. The company apparently was unprepared for the post-holiday rush. http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/26/n...chased-ebooks/ I noticed B&N's reader forum boards are down today too. This does not bode well. L.J. |

Why am I not surprised? B&N has bungled almost every release of their readers.

You mean that is you sell someone a nook you also have to sell them ebooks?

I bought something last night and had one problem - the submit screen froze. I killed the browser and looked at my library, and the purchase was there, but certainly someone to new to this isn't likely to do that. Maybe the Skype team is providing backup for B&N's servers - or maybe it's just what it looks like: a stone-age white elephant trying to turn around in a tiny Internet bathtub. Too bad, and hope they are organized by now.

The B&N forums have been down, the website has been hanging, it's a mess. No question. Just the same, I find it amusing, shall I say, that a Kindle owner dug up a year-old article to prove her point that "B&N fails to deliver." It's the kind of thing that if the situation were reversed, the Kindle peeps would be releasing the dogs, pointing the finger, and using the dreaded "T" word. Makes no nevermind to me. I'm just observing the passing scene. |

The weather may be a factor too. The blizzard and 3 feet of snow.

If the servers are housed in an area hard hit with heavy snow and cold, the servers or internet lines may be having problems.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I loaded a giftcard and bought a couple books this morning - no issues at all other than about a 30 second delay searching for the second book.

My apologies for posting this outdated news. Someone sent it to me as a current item after I noticed that the Nook reader boards were down. As an author who sells books through B&N, I have no desire to see the company fail. L.J. |

After seeing your post I tried it. Everything is working well for me now. Grabbed a freebie, then searched for another book and no problems. Haven't tried the forums. Don't know where they are.

Seriously, though, why the note of gloom and doom? "This does not bode well." Even if it had been current news, forums ice up, servers hang, and the immediate assumption is that it's a temporary issue and will be resolved. No boding about it. | |
