![]() I'm not sure about whether Sony will update the T1 and T2 for the new RMSDK, but this from the Kobo faq at http://www.kobo.com/sony?utm_source=sonyNA indicates they might at least provide SOME update to address the Reader Store closing: Quote:

https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/45014 Can I use my Reader from Sony to buy eBooks directly from Kobo? (Top) In late March, we will release an update to the Reader for PC/Mac® software that will enable you to directly connect to the Kobo Store for future purchases. You can use the software then to also transfer the titles via USB to any of your Reader models from Sony . In late May 2014, Kobo will launch a version of its eBook Store that you will be able to access directly from your Wi-Fi Reader (PRS-T1, PRS-T2, and PRS-T3) from Sony . The Reader PRS-900 and PRS-950 devices will no longer have direct access to an eBook store after Reader Store closes. However, any eBooks purchased from Kobo can still be loaded onto your device via USB transfer. |

If this is going to work smoothly, I think it's the best support one could have hoped for. The T1 is already 2 generations old. Many companies don't even bother with products of that age.

The problem is that Adobe CANNOT expect every reader, every app, every program to be updated to handle this new DRM. So I don't see this being much of an issue. If Adobe wants people to switch to Amazon, then they'll make this new DRM the only DRM and once people can no longer user their DRMed eBooks on their device/app, then they will move to Amazon. Is Adobe that stupid? I don't think so. Are eBookstores that sell ePub like B&N & Kobo that stupid to change the DRM server? I don't think so.

If Adobe is trying to fore a new DRM on us, all it will do is drive us to Amazon. I don;t think the BPH that are fighting Amazon will want us to flock there. SO I think the BPH will be in the side of the consumer in terms of this new DRM. I cannot see Hatchette being on the side of this new DRM given their battle with Amazon. It just makes no sense to make it so we can no longer read our eBooks on the devices we own that still work that won't be upgraded to use the new DRM. |

I've been in situations recently where I had no access to WiFi or cell data. If my eBooks had to phone home, I'd not have been able to read. This is a fail of a system if that's how it's to be. My 650 cannot phone home. It has no hardware to do so. So even if Sony was to try to update the firmware for this new DRM, it would not work. Remember DivX that had to phone home? Where is it now? It's long dead and buried.

Also, there are a number of Readers that won't ever get upgraded that are still in use today. Some might not even be possible to upgrade to handle the new DRM because there might not be enough space in the hardware. All we know is that once ADE 3.0 is installed and an ePub is download that becomes ADE 3.0 encrypted and no longer works on a user's Reader, that's the day Amazon wins. |

The problem is that you vastly underestimate the power of human stupidity.

That page has links to ADE 3.0 and ADE 2.0.1. I suggest downloading ADE 2.0.1 and if anyone has installed ADE 3.0, replace it with ADE 2.0.1. Also, when you look at the what's new, the first thing you see is... Quote:

I am not sure if this is the same thing but here goes. I purchased a book from Kobo and when I went to download it to ADE so that I could put it on a SD card it did not have that option anymore. When I contacted Kobo they told me that it was because the publisher had put it on the site as an ePub3 file. I was somewhat ticked because I have ereaders that are full and I like to use a SD card. Yet I can go to other websites and download the same book to ADE. Hmm any help here.
