A while ago I was learning a new (to me) piano piece, playing the same section over and over. When I next went outside, one of our native songbirds, a tui, was trilling away, and I realised it was singing the opening three bars over and over! It had a good ear.

According to popular belief it means the person died in battle. However, according to Snopes (http://www.snopes.com/military/statue.asp), the "hoof code" isn't really real anyway.

So now what .... I answered the question with the answer I think orlok wanted, but I'm still wrong - did we just kill the thread?

Ok, here is one, in the form of a jeopardy question...

These two people, of Persian decent, related by marriage gave their name to a well known scientific award.

I hope that's enough to narrow it down, there may be more than one correct answer, if no one is getting the right one I'll provide more clues later.

Ok, while searching for Atlantis I got myself a map of the Middle East (as I think it must be there)

Its not Jericho. Jerusalem is not old enough.

Hmmmm Damascus? Beirut? Does not sound right though.

There is one called Aleppo. If I am remembering my history lessons there was a lot of action during the crusades there. Not sure if this counts, but it could indicate that a settlement was there a long time before.

So its Aleppo or bust!
