I think that is the job detail log that applies to overall calibre not just Fanficfare, You will see Fanficfare log at the top though if the job is from the Fanficfare.

From my side, you have to copy manually the table : select table and use Control + C (not the "Copy to Clipboard" button) and directly paste it to Excel. So far that works for me

Yes, sorry. In English that's labeled 'View Log' and FFF doesn't use the work 'journal' anywhere, so I thought you might mean something else that does use 'journal' in English.

That log display is not a spreadsheet, it's an HTML table. Depending on your computer OS and the apps you use, it may or may not paste into a spreadsheet as cells or a word processor as a table.

It also makes a difference (for me at least) if you select it all and hot-key copy--that carries the HTML; but if I click the 'Copy to Clipboard' button, it gets converted to plain text, one cell per line.

Ah, sorry, the problem is that the URL that first loads in is the "/home" but that doesn't appear in the update notification. The problem I was having was that the update and original email weren't the same so "get updates from email" passes right over them. When I used the URL from the update email it asked if I wanted to update the story's URL.

adapter_fictionlive doesn't work with chapter URLs. So, yes, that is a limitation of FFF for that site.

Most sites include the story ID in the chapter URLs, too, so we can derive the story URL. Without that, it's difficult to accept chapter URLs.

Thing is, the chapter URL is just a longer version of the home URL.

You should be able to set it so that it cuts off the "Training-Days/EG7hmZXFu3TLdKJkT" or "/home" portions of the URL for update and download purposes right?

I don't read fiction.live and I didn't implement adapter_fictionlive, so I don't honestly know much about it. And it's weird enough that I'm avoiding looking into it for as long as I can.

The developer for adapter_fictionlive doesn't seem to be on MR, but you can open an issue on github and include @HazelSh to hopefully bring it to their attention.

Sorry, my interface is in French and I forgot to turn it into English since journal is a valid word in English and I misplaced my common sense. u.u

Is there a way to add a story url to an existing story? So far, the only solution I've found is to track down the story page, download a new copy, restore any metadata that got overwritten, and then, if I was just trying to update the log after deleting the files, delete them again.

FanFicFare > Configure FanFicFare > Basic tab > Updating Calibre options > Search inside books for story URL.

Then use "overwrite always" when updating and you'll get a FFF ePub.

For some formats (e.g. PDF) you may need to convert to text first or FFF won't be able to grab the URLs.

If the URL is not present in the file you can manually add it to the identifiers as url:https://archiveofourown.org/works/0000000

If you have an epub that was previously downloaded with FFF, you can select it and choose the 'Update Existing FanFiction Books' option. FFF should find the storyURL inside the epub.

If that doesn't work, there's also an FFF option on the Basic settings tab 'Search inside ebooks for Story URL?' that will search inside epubs, text and html ebooks for valid story URLs when you do 'Update Existing FanFiction Books'.

If neither of those work, you probably will have to download the entire text again anyway, but you could try manually adding the story URL as an identifier:url.

Last resort, you can download in FFF and then merge with your old book entry or copy the ebook format manually into your old book entry.

When FFF presents you with the story URLs for a series anthology, it now also shows you the series name and description above the list. TThey're not labeled or anything yet, this is a first cut version.)

I like this. And if it gets expanded with lables “title” and “description” it will be even better/understandable.

If the series has a name, that will be the name of the anthology (after anthology_title_pattern (default:${title} Anthology) is applied). You asked for it, that's what you get.

As I was one of those who asked for adding “Anthology” to the title – I am still happy you added this.

If the series has a description, that will placed in the book comments and then followed by the 'Anthology containing:' text as before. 'New Only' is still applied.

That is a great change. Not every story has a description but it has been a hassle to add it manually in the comment field.



But does in not work with “update anthology”? I had https://archiveofourown.org/series/103976 already as an anthology (still without the description) and it didn´t add the description in the comments using update – not even if I used “update always”.

Series name and description in this case cannot be edited by replace_metadata or include/exclude, etc because they are not story metadata.

As I didn´t use replace metadata on title/series name or description till now I don´t think it will bother me.

Right now I'm mostly interested in your comments on the user-interface aspects of this, and if there's anything obvious I've overlooked. Adding series specific code for more sites will come afterwards. However, please provide concrete examples if there are other sites you think break the series paradigm I've set.

I don´t know how many sites even have a story option. Fanfiction.net and fanfiktion.de don´t as far as I know.

It got the right titles but it´s missing the description. But I think that is because it´s called “summary” on the series-site.

Apart from that I only tried with AO3 – where it works.

The only thing till now I can say is to add the labels“series name” and “description” – but as you wrote “this is a first cut version” I think that is already your plan.

Huh, you're quite right. It did come back around when you posted your reply, just I finally got around to replying here. Been updating from that source again just fine since then. After being down about 4-5 days, and the recent change of adding to instead go to the other site in all the chapters threw me off. How odd that still is.
