Very Much Confused About the Firmware Upgrade

I have received the device today in Turkey and still reviewing it; so far not bad.

Edit: My device is 5-Inch Pocket PRO ebook reader.

Hovewever I have a small problem about the firmware update.

I have downloaded the latest firmware from http://www.theezreader.com/html/support_firmware.html page and installed on the device as requested. But there seems to be a confusion; when I select Menu - Settings - About, after the update, the firmware version is shown as V2.02.ASTAK.090907 however, it should be something like 09102009 as far as I can understand from the file name which is http://www.theezreader.com/firmware_...k.09102009.rar

I am attaching two images, one just before the update; second after the update.

Can someone please tell me if I am using the latest update?

I also protest Astak for not putting an update history or a release log on their site. There's no way of knowing if I have the latest firmware on my device.

I would be happy if you could help.

if that is the ezreader pro then that is the latest firmware for it is for 9/10/09

I am not sure what it should show, but the firmware date doesn't have to be the same as the file date. It's possible they tested it for 3 days before posting it online.

The reason I have sent this message is that I cannot see the effects of the update. Say for example I still have three level basic zoom option in all files other than pdfs and turning page is still.slow. The first picture is just before the flash with new firmware and the second picture is what my device shows now. Can anyone with the latest firmware take two photos like this and send here for comparison?

To tell if you have the latest firmware just use a ePUB that has internal links. When you are on a page with a link press the 0 key. Normally this would take you to the next page but if there is a link it will select the link (usually a second underline) instead of switching pages. If you hit the menu (oK) key it will follow the link.

After all unsuccessful firmware update attempts with the original update file I gave up and downloaded Hanlin V5 update from here: http://www.jinke.com.cn/Compagesql/E.../update_v5.asp

I have read somewhere in the forums that these devices are same; so I setup this update without a problem. Now the info screen of the device shows the attached image.

The device has been updated and works better; EDIT: .txt and .doc files have still three display level; 1. the original, 2. zoom mode 3. landscape mode.

Meanwhile please note that there seems to be two differences between the updates: The Astak PDF parser and Bookshelf version is 090907, the Hanlin for both versions 090924. I don't know though if the bigger number means more developments or does it just differ because of different company names?

After the update only my welcome and shut down page has changed; other than that it's the same.

I recommend the other users, without taking any responsibility, to give it a try.

The versions I show are: the first number listed is as it arrived to me, "shipped". After I did a THOROUGH evaluation, I downloaded the one and only update, 20090910 (Sept 10, 2009) and those are the second numbers after the double colons. These are downloaded in a batch, not individually. Only three items show an update.

Make sure you only download the one for your size: 5" vs 6"

I did the update. Really can't see much of a difference.

The only real significant difference I noticed was that on some formats (e.g. epub), you get a SEARCH option if you open the menu when the book is open. You enter in text like you would enter text from a cell phone handset.

Awkward, but it works.
