007 update error when trying to jailbreak kindle

I am using https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=186645 to jailbreak a 5.3.7.3 kindle with serial number B011 1407. When I run the jailbreak file, I get an 007 update error.

You either had old updates laying around, you did something wrong, or the OTA updater conked its head.

Reboot the device and try again. The updater shouldn't run *at all*.

I tried it three times. Basically, I downloaded https://storage.sbg.cloud.ovh.net/v1...-r18002.tar.xz file, unzipped it, copied the contents onto the root of the kindle, restarted the kindle and clicked on the updater.

Option B it is then (that, or your recap was a bit hasty).

It's not the tarball's contents that you should put on your device, it's the contents of the kindle-5.4-jailbreak.zip archive *inside* that tarball.

Otherwise you end dropping the full set of hotfix install, uninstall & crap in there, which will break all the things.

Necro-posting, as I'm having this issue. Full disclosure, I previously *successfully* jailbroke this k3g, but it started locking up, so I did a factory reset, and went through the process of re-registering the device, so I could jailbreak it again. I did NOT update after the re-register.

I am putting the "...k3g_install.bin" file in the root directory, and when I hit "update" the updater runs, and says it failed, with the 007 error. I remember from the first time I did it (over a year ago, now), there was some error I had to chase, but I never saw the updater run.

Edit: 3.4.3 firmware. Same as before I did the factory reset.
