Jailbreak for PW2 Firmware 5.12.2.2
I have a Paperwhite 6th Generation on firmware 5.12.2.2, as per the Device Info screen. However, the Model Number DP75SDI on back of the device corresponds to the 7th Generation Paperwhite per an internet page guide.

Would like to jaibreak the device to block OTA updates. Do not find this particular firmware version mentioned in the forum. So I tried the procedure in Software Jailbreak for (almost) any Kindle even though the firmware version is off the list, and it did not work. I tried updating the firmware per Firmware updating tutorial in that thread to get the next or preceding version but no go.

Any suggestions what could be done? Thanks in advance.

Even the guide you cite says that model numbers and other amazon desigantions are ambiguous.

For jailbreak purposes ID is based on the first 6 characters of the serial number.

The SN prefix is 90D422 so per the table, nickname is PW2.

The PW2 has a complicated jailbreak history that I have never tried to keep track of, but part of that complication is that it can sometimes be downgraded without jailbreak. Also, are you sure you are not running version 5.12.2.2.2? That is actually the "highest" version despite its number.

Also were you trying PW3 or PW2 firmwares?

Your best bet might be the (supposedly easy with no soldering) hardware jailbreak Popcorn

So the only way I know to verify firmware version is the Device info screen which shows 12.2.2. I see the later versions in the jailbreak thread as you indicated. For what it's worth, the Kindle E-Reader Software Update page shows 12.2.2 as latest for 6th Generation.

Unfortunately I don't have the skill or dexterity to manually intervene on the kindle.

I tried several PW2 upgrade/downgrade firmware versions. Either no response or in one instance received a message that the downgrade version was not valid for installation. Perhaps some different version for manual firmware update might work?
