Device not detected by Calibre

First, thanks for Calibre, really indispensable software.

Unfortunately starting the past few days it is very erratic in detecting my device (Cybook Muse).

The first time it did not see it, I started the debug process and at the end of it the device was detected again so I did not report, but then it happened again so I think there must be some problem that needs to be fixed.

The device is seen by the OS.
It is not ignored in Calibre.
The device plugin is enabled.

Here is the log:

(NB "Le priphrique nest pas prt." means "the drive is not ready", but the device is accessible in the OS file explorer so I'm not sure why it says that.)

Is your device out of drive space? it may need to be reformatted.

It currently has 776mo free out of 6.16go; is that too little to be useful? I will try removing some files and see if that makes a difference. Thanks for the suggestion.

That is not quite what he meant.
There may be corruption in the file system so the numbers you se do not match reality.
You might see if Windows can fix that devices 'disk' (calibre should not be running)
In explorer select the drive: Properties: Tools (tab): Check for errors (click that button)

There may be corruption in the file system so the numbers you se do not match reality.
You might see if Windows can fix that devices 'disk' (calibre should not be running)
In explorer select the drive: Properties: Tools (tab): Check for errors (click that button)
Oh, I see, thanks for clarifying. I checked the disk: no errors. I also deleted a few more files, now there is 900mo free space but Calibre still does not see it, at least not right away; sometimes if I leave it long enough it eventually detects it.

I did another debug to see if anything changed; halfway through the debug, it was detected (after about 10-15 minutes). It seems to be the same results as the 1st one.

Here is the log:

Reformat the cybook drive, or reset the device, that's a hardware failure, most likely.

Ouch, that's not good. Okay I will do that, thank you. Just to make sure I understand, you mean, in the OS file explorer, right-click on the Cybook drive, then "Format"? (I tried a reset already, so format it is)

Hi Kovid,
My advice is not being detected by Calibre. The error message:
calibre, version 2.85.0

1) what OS (seeing Calibre 2.85, I assume a really old MAC)
2) What model number of a Kindle? Your version of Calibre may not be able to detect newer models.
3) did you try the common fixes (not you may lose your bookmarks and reading status). First do a full reboot of the Kindle and see if that cures it
