Device not detected by Calibre
First, thanks for Calibre, really indispensable software.
Unfortunately starting the past few days it is very erratic in detecting my device (Cybook Muse). The first time it did not see it, I started the debug process and at the end of it the device was detected again so I did not report, but then it happened again so I think there must be some problem that needs to be fixed. The device is seen by the OS. It is not ignored in Calibre. The device plugin is enabled. Here is the log: (NB "Le priphrique nest pas prt." means "the drive is not ready", but the device is accessible in the OS file explorer so I'm not sure why it says that.) Spoiler:

There may be corruption in the file system so the numbers you se do not match reality. You might see if Windows can fix that devices 'disk' (calibre should not be running) In explorer select the drive: Properties: Tools (tab): Check for errors (click that button) |

I did another debug to see if anything changed; halfway through the debug, it was detected (after about 10-15 minutes). It seems to be the same results as the 1st one. Here is the log: Spoiler:

Reformat the cybook drive, or reset the device, that's a hardware failure, most likely.

Ouch, that's not good. Okay I will do that, thank you. Just to make sure I understand, you mean, in the OS file explorer, right-click on the Cybook drive, then "Format"? (I tried a reset already, so format it is)

Hi Kovid,
My advice is not being detected by Calibre. The error message: calibre, version 2.85.0 ERROR: Error: Error communicating with device Failed to access files in the main memory of your device. You should contact the device manufacturer for support. Common fixes are: try a different USB cable/USB port on your computer. If you device has a "Reset to factory defaults" type of setting somewhere, use it. Underlying error: [Errno 1] Operation not permitted: '/Volumes/Kindle/driveinfo.calibre' Traceback (most recent call last): File "site-packages/calibre/gui2/device.py", line 88, in run File "site-packages/calibre/gui2/device.py", line 471, in _get_device_information File "site-packages/calibre/devices/usbms/driver.py", line 153, in get_device_information IOError: Failed to access files in the main memory of your device. If you device has a "Reset to factory defaults" type of setting somewhere, use it. 2) What model number of a Kindle? Your version of Calibre may not be able to detect newer models. 3) did you try the common fixes (not you may lose your bookmarks and reading status). First do a full reboot of the Kindle and see if that cures it |
