what does 'all ebook files in a single directory' mean?

Assume 'all ebook files in a single directory are the same book in different formats' ?

I assume that means not 'all ebook files' but 'all ebook files of the same name' ?

so that mybook.epub is the same as mybook.mobi is the same as mybook.azw ?

Surely it does not mean that:

book1.epub is the same as book2.epub is the same as book3.mobi and so on?

That is what it means.
Think of the folk who have sorted books into a Title (sub)folder, similar to what Calibre does, but the main metadata is in the DB, not the file name
Others may just toss the books into a single folder. There may not be alternate formats . not many sources give you all or a choice (Baen does)
