Save To Disk Single Directory
So I did a few saves to check out what it would do.....it created a listing by author, with each author's books, OPF file etc contained in their own folder. Lovely.
I had only just installed Calibre and was jumping around looking at stuff..... Anyway, some hours later, I tried another 'save to disk'. This time, the folder structure had gone and the books are now all simply listed in book title sequence, together with their OPF file and jpg image. I am aware that you can change the file structure by going into Preferences and playing around with the 'save to disk' template, but I have not knowingly changed anything in there. Clearly, I have inadvertently changed something, but I don't know what. Any clues? |

STD only affects EXPORTS, not the Library, which is set in concrete
Your template (configure on the STD icon) sets the structure pattern Look at the example shown on the 'configure' form BTW :Welcome: |

Thanks for the Welcome and comment.
I haven't altered the STD template.....to check what's going on, I downloaded latest Calibre version, populated it with a small quantity of books then did a SAD. Output is NOT creating folders, which I understand is the default? |

The save template in Preferences->saving to disk should be
{author_sort}/{title}/{title} - {authors} And be sure youa re runnign the save to disk action and not the "save to disk ina single directory" action |

Many thanks Kovid, that's the answer right there.
I was using the correct save template, but I had selected "Save....in a single directory". Maybe if the Preference options became "Save to disk in folders" and "Save to disk in Author sequence", then even silly people like me could be returned to the path of righteousness? |

BTW, whilst experimenting, I noticed Calibre will add a book of 0 size(Mb) and this 'non-book' is not picked up as an error in 'Library Maintenance'.....why do you allow this?

So people can use placeholder files.

As an example, I have an empty file named 'book.print' that I add to calibre book entries that correspond to books I own in print. That way 'PRINT' is listed in the formats section of those books.
