Share Quote to Email is gone

I think it's related the to latest update which also added Dark Mode.
Now I only one option to Share Quote to Goodreads. I think there was an option for Twitter as well which is not there any more.

I'm referring to books I bought directly from Amazon including those I've read in the past and was able to share quotes/notes to my email.

Is Anyone else experiencing the same changes?

Share Quote to Email? There’s never been such an option. Are you thinking of one of the mobile apps? There is no email client or address book on the Kindle to support that.

You can Export Notes (Go to view Notes and there’s Export Notes at the bottom of the Notes viewer). Then you’d receive an email (to your Amazon account email) with the notes attached.

I don’t see the Twitter/Facebook options in Social Networks settings either. I think this might be a server-side issue: on my Kindle Touch I get ‘cannot connect, try again later’. But I didn’t have either of those things set up in the first place. If you had done so maybe they would still be there. I cannot think they’d want to remove the feature permanently. It’s free advertising for them.

Amazon removed the Share to Facebook and Twitter some time ago. Now the only option is Goodreads.

I don't recall ever seeing a share to email.

Sorry, not something I used, so I can't comment on this to help. If it did disappear, I wouldn't have noticed it gone.

There used to be an option for sharing to email aside for Goodreads with menus for choosing the email and the subject etc. I last used it last month (May) and this is a sample quote received as email:

Subject: Check out this quote

Hi, I'm reading this book, and wanted to share this quote with you.

It most likely has to do with the fact that Amazon owns Goodreads.

Ah, I'm kind of remembering it now that you've mentioned it

Did people use it? It could be it wasn't worth the update/upkeep if it's wasn't popular enough.

Goodreads I kind of get because they own it and have already had that for years on there, so no reason to remove

Maybe some of the more popular email vendors changed their coding permissions or something. I know when Facebook did, Goodreads had to eliminate their sharing feature.

That sounds about right.

I still don’t think there was ever a Share By Email option on the Kindle. How would that work, in absence of an email client? On my Kindle Touch, there’s no longer any sharing, for example.

But there is as I mentioned earlier Export Notes in addition to Goodreads, and read.amazon.com/notebook.

Are there any email clients that send mail other than handing it off to a mail-transfer agent?

As of 5.9.6.1, (the highest version any of my kindles are running,) sendmail is still present as the symbolic link /usr/sbin/sendmail -> ../../bin/busybox

As I've mentioned above. I mainly emailed to myself and that feature was available under Share on my Kindle up till probably a few days ago. You could choose who to email a quote to which is also a kind of advertisement and a promotion for that specific book. I prefer that to going through all my highlights or quotes of a specific book so basically I had all my highlights and the most important one on my email and YES it had an email client either on the Kindle or via a server side SMTP client (haven't looked into it so I can't comment on that).

The menu that has one option now, that is Goodreads (which I also use to update my reading progress) had at I believe 2 more options Email and Twitter (never used that one). Sadly, I don't have screenshots of that.

I just checked on my Voyage that is still on 5.12.2, and it only has Goodreads and Twitter as options when I go to share.

The only place I've ever seen the option to share a quote by email was in the app from my phone.

I checked a few of the previous Paperwhite User’s Guides and there is no mention of sharing via email. This does not mean the feature did not exist, but if it did, I never noticed or used it (which also doesn’t mean it didn’t exist.
