Voyage Worth It for Page Press, UI, and Flush Screen?
Been with Kobo, but recently wanting to take the opportunity to convert
I have a Glo HD and want a Voyage for the Flush Screen, page press, and even the new UI which I think looks very nice I love my Kobo for the stat tracking, font size options, and font variety. I even hear Kindles have issues with weird spacing issues between words, for which the Kobo is 100% perfect For example, on kindle, some words have like 5 extra spaces between words. Very distracting Anyways, I think I can move on from the stat tracking and font variety, because I hate touch screens I want the feel of a button so that I dont have to mess around with bad gestures where I somerimes find myself going back by accident or skipping too far ahead, etc Some questions: -is page press worthwhile and are there issues with it like not registering presses or being hard to use? -is the glass flush screen better than paperwhite? Does it smudge and ruin reading experience? -does kindle still have issues with word spacing? Is it easy to fix? -is the new UI as great as it looks? I adore the most recent book and the list view for the next two books. I dont know why, but it makes me love the Kindle over the Kobo All my books will likely be epubs or converted formats through calibre so I hope there aren't additional issues Thank u all so much |

I haven't seen odd spaces on my kindles.
The only people I have seen make that complaint don't even own kindles. And yes if one uses the super large fonts, you do get bigger spaces. Well I take that back, I did on some where the author had done a fixed font but they were rare and those books were self-published and basically unreadable for various reasons. Use the look inside before buying unknowns on Amazon. What those people are generally talking about is there is no hyphenation on the older kindles so occasionally you get a big right margin but since you are getting a voyage that isn't a problem. Buy one, if you don't like it you have 30 days to return it. Now in a few minutes, one or two posters will be here to tell you why you shouldn't buy a voyage. Be sure and ask if they actually own a kindle. If I wasn't so cheap, I would buy a voyage. |

So I wont have to worry about odd issues like random gaps between words?
Anywho, I forgot I could return it if I dont like it! Much appreciated insight, Im eager to jump into the Kindle family Again, I will be converting most my books and dont intend to use Amazon's store just yet for the books I currently have, so I figured it was an issue with Amazon not formatting certain file types correctly |

I have a Kobo, not a Kindle. But I have seen the weird space issues on my Kobo (using kepubs). On the Kobo at least it has to do with the hyphenation dictionary and where it will or won't break words.
On Kindle (until recently) there wasn't hyphenation. That's probably where the weird spacing complaints came from. As Cin said, that's changed. I guess what I'm saying is I wouldn't let spacing concerns steer you away from a Kindle. |

I have a Kindle Voyage and also a Kobo Aura HD and just recently got the Kobo Aura One.
Here's my 2¢-- I like both Kobos and the Voyage--mostly for the pluses you mentioned in your original post. I do like the page press buttons on the Voyage and wish my Kobos had them. When I had only the Aura HD and the Voyage, I probably read on each reader about 50% of the time. The advantages (in my opinion) of the Voyage were the page press buttons, the flush bezel, and higher resolution--clearer screen. The advantages of the Aura HD over the voyage (again in my opinion) are the additional font control, ability to install your own fonts, and the slightly larger (6.8") screen. Now that I have an Aura One, I find myself using that reader--I really like the larger screen of the One and the flush bezel which is nice. I have to admit I do miss the Voyage page turn buttons though. Why not get a Voyage, see if you like it and return if you don't. And there isn't any reason why you can't have both a Kobo and a Kindle at the same time! |

I can only compare paper white 2 vs voyage
The voyage screen has higher res and a little better contrast, but the top is noticeably a different shade of color than the bottom. Many people swear by the haptic buttons, but they are useless to me. (I liked the kindle keyboard buttons best.) The flush screen is not a big deal to me. For the $120 refurb price, it's worth it to me for the lighter weight and better contrast / resolution. As for the spacing, I read with largish fonts so they are a problem. I actually use the old mobi format to avoid having large gaps between words in justified text. (I don't like hyphenation, which are not always available anyway.) As others have said, it's best to try it yourself. |

Some of the books I read have links referencing footnotes, etc. in the text. If some of those links happen to be at the far right of the screen, I may tap one on accident. That's the only frustration I've had using the touch screen, and one reason i like having the page press buttons. If you find this happens to you, tap the top of the page to show the toolbar. There is a back button there which will take you back to the page you were on. Some things to note.
I alternate between page press and touch screen. It just depends on what is more convenient at the time, or if the text I'm reading has reference links (as I mentioned above). I find the press zones are in appropriate positions for how I hold my voyage, so I don't typically have issues knowing where to press. However, my aim is off from time to time. The haptic feedback helps on these occasions (if you don't feel it, you know you missed the zone). Quote:

I have a Voyage that I use over all other devices. Previously I have owned a Kobo Glo HD.
I love the page press and often page forward with the left button. The screen is very sharp and clear, far sharper than the Paperwhite 3. And I really like the new UI. |

I have been using the kindle voyage and kobo H2O.
-is page press worthwhile and are there issues with it like not registering presses or being hard to use? No. I never use the page press. It is because the position of the virtual buttons is not right for me. -is the glass flush screen better than paperwhite? Does it smudge and ruin reading experience? Never use paperwhite before. But I love the flush screen of kv. -does kindle still have issues with word spacing? Is it easy to fix? I don't see this problem in my kv. IMO, my H2O has a better display than my kv. But kv responses much faster than my H2O. |

I have owned Kobo and kindle and the spacing is better on Kindle, as well as the layout. I had Kobo for like 6 yrs, and i find on Kindle I read much faster and easily because of the layout. It's really great.

Thank you all very much. I paid $162 for a refurbished Voyage and I think that's worth it compared to the $200 price.
I only hope to get a Voyage that has no screen yellow light issue, at least one that isn't as terrible as some of the pics Ive seen I dont want to make another thread, but Im curious if later batches quietly fixed the screen quality |
