Downloading modified Kindle ebooks
I have Calibre for my ebook library. I sort out the formatting, metadata and add page number data from Goodreads. I then connect my Kindle to my laptop and transfer the books over usb. Is there any way I can have the convenience of downloading books direct from Amazon on the Kindle while being able to use my modified ebooks?

Good Question.
I can think of two possible solutions, but I don't have experience of either. I hope that other's will chime in to say how well they work. The first is calibre server - it's possible to set up an internet-accessible version of your calibre library. The second sending via email through Amazon - I think this may also store the books in your Amazon account in some way. I'm looking forward to hearing from people actually using one of these systems. |

Agreed. Send your modified books from Calibre to your Amazon account by email. They'll go into your Cloud library, whence you can then download them directly onto any Kindle device or app.

I agree with shalym and HarryT. While I mostly read on my Kindle at home, having all of my books (including those purchased elsewhere) in my Amazon account means that I can pull out my phone any time I find myself out and about with a few minutes to spare and pick up reading right where I left off.
I always leave wi-fi enabled on my Kindle so that I know the last page read is always synced. I still get at least a week of battery life between recharges. ETA: If you are starting with a book you purchased from Amazon and modifying it and then sending it back to your account, you may want to add something to the title so that you can easily tell your modified version from the original. ETA2: I don't know how this will work with books containing page numbers. You can't email an APNX file along with the book. It might work if you email a master mobi file with embedded page numbers as produced by kindlegen, but I have never tried that. Last edited by jhowell; 07-22-2016 at 02:42 PM. |
