The Kids Open Dictionary

Hey there--

My name is Brad and I'm a huge ebook reader. I've been reading on various Palms for years now.

The reason I'm posting is that I am working on a project to create a Open Kids Dictionary. To help people see the value of this dictionary, I put together a glossary builder.

I have been involved in creating ebooks over the years and we always included glossaries in our ebooks. They are a bother to build, and the dictionary will address this problem.

Right now I output the glossaries in a few formats, pdf, rtf, html and text. I would like to also offer the output in an ebook format.

I love it if people could chime in as to what formats I should support. I would like to output Mobipocket, but this has to run automatically on a linux server and at the moment, that seems impossible.

Thanks in advance--

Mobipocket has an alpha version of their Mobigen command line ebook creator for Linux. Get it here. (Direct download link for a gzipped tar file.)

I'm happy to help. Your project looks like a worthy one, and if I can provide a useful pointer that assists, I'm delighted to do so.

Look elsewhere on MR for info on Kovid Goyal's Calibre, a set of open source tools in Python for creating and manipulating Sony Reader LRF files. Python is a standard part of Linux distros, so you ought to be able to create Sony files, too, if you find it useful.
