Lots of members seem to be childless, which would explain why they have enough time on their hands for so much reading.

you make time for reading if you have children.

You read to/with your children from the day they are born if you want them to read.

Do you watch tv/play video games/go online or read?

Having kids simply means you organize your time differently.

I love small children. When they are someone else's!
My two are 12 and 19 (to be 13 and 20 within a month). My son lives full time with his dad in Texas, my daughter is on her own, again, in Texas. My neighbor-on-the-right has grandchildren. LOTS of them. Ages from six months to 21 years old. I know most of them by sight and name, they treat my backyard as if it were an extension of hers, on my invitation, and they know if there's a problem with Grandma to come get me. But the hearing specialist asked Chris if he wanted genetic testing done for possibility of future children and we both recoiled in horror. Babies of our own are not in the plans.

we didn't have a TV until my kids were 9 and 4. during those years, walking, playing games, reading, doing crafts, etc were the primary past times. after tv came into out home, tv watching time was very limited. there were family reading, game, walking, etc times. I guess it depends on your priorities.

as far as the poll... I abhor screaming children, as well as miss behaving ones. I've gotten to the point in life where I will say something to both the children and parents in public. I tend to work a lot with teens both in scouts and previously at ski schools. this morning on my way into work ironically enough, I was contemplating getting into fostering, but only teen aged kids.

All joking aside, young children only seem to get this way when treated rather badly by the adults that surround them (parents that are beyond self centered, family members that scream at each other, etc)

While I've never wanted any of my own (I was cursed with the "a child like yourself" curse when I was younger

) I've not minded (too much) being around well behaved, curious kids.

It's just great to see the world through the eyes of a child. At the age of 2-4 life is full of wonders and mysteries. Besides, children are a perfect excuse if you like to do things like playing with cars and trains, buying worms to see them change into butterflies or building multistorey tree houses.

YES!! I absolutely love kids - sadly mine are now 44 & 43 yrs old & get upset to be called kids - but my Grand kids are a different matter. I enjoy spoiling them (as my parents did mine) much to the disgust of my kids. BUT that's what being a grandparent is all about to my mind He He.

Don't think I will manage GtGrandkids - but these days you never know

I don't have children but love them, especially my three godchildren. However, i do not like badly behaved children of any age!

Yeah, Grandparents are evil

They take your kids, fill them up with sugar, let them do anything they like - and when they've spoiled them completely they bring them back home

Ok, they are Grandparents - it's in the job description....

I have spent a good portion of my career working with kids 5 and under. My youngest is currently 5.

I totally agree with DG about making time to read. As a result of me reading daily to my kids, my oldest now follows in his mommy's footsteps and reads while walking around the house, doing chores, lying in bed, purportedly sleeping, etc. Recently there was a school dance (young kids, a lot of running around, kicking balloons around) and my son soon found his way to the corner with a book he had procured from out of thin air. Bad lighting, noise, commotion...and he was totally absorbed.

My kids find the library a happy sanctuary, just as I always did. Teacher colleagues and mommy friends alike complain they have no time to read. I don't know what they are talking about. I make time to read, whether I have been a sahm with 3 kids 3 and under, or a f/t teacher with 3 young school kids. Reading is a priority.

Your poll and your post don't seem to match at all.

(And I hate seeing badly behaved kids as well!)
