Manually install cron on Kobo Wifi?

Is there any way to install cron on a Kobo Wifi 1.9.12? I have telnet enabled, and have seen other Kobo Wifi posts that use cron but it seems to be missing somehow on mine.

apt-get and yum both seem to be excluded as well, so I am not really sure how to go about installing it. Is it possible to create a KoboRoot.tgz update patch that adds cron?

Keep in mind that a crond won't be able to do anything while the device is asleep, which severely limits the interest, since it's basically what the device is doing most of the time it's sitting unused

If you need that kind of feature with a sleeping device, you'll have to dig into playing with rtc alarms, and I'm not sure if anyone ever played with those on Kobos.

I seem to recall there was some discussion a long time back about rtc issues.
