Help on embedding data in books
Hi all,
I have started building my epub library and used calibre to add or replace cover pages, properly edit metadata with correct naming convention of authors, titles, genres etc. I finally managed to get all the books properly tagged in calibre, and fired up iTunes to copy/paste my collection to iTunes. Unfortunately, after importing, I noticed that iTunes does not seem to read the metadata that calibre creates at the .opf file and simply gets all the original metadata from the epub file itself. So my question is this. Is there a way that I can embed my changes to the epub file? Can somebody help me out please? Thank you for your time. |

Use the Polish option.

Simplest is Embed Metadata - works on all formats - might have to add to toolbar/menu.

The Polish option seems to have solved the majority of the problems. Save to Disk or Embed Metadata also solved many issues but introduced new ones (mission cover pages etc).
After Polishing, some books were still incorrectly tagged (namely author sorting) but I took care of them manually in iTunes. Thank you all for your replies. |

Embed Metadata and save-to-disk will only update covers, so if a book did not have a cover properly embedded then it won't update it.
Polish will force-insert a cover into a book that has no cover. ![]() |

Is this also true with books that have their titlepage ID'd as a "cover"? I want to be able to ADD an image as a cover without losing the title page.

If they've set the textual title page as the semantic cover, the book is ill-formed.
![]() I can't remember seeing such a case, but I would imagine calibre does indeed update/replace it. |
