Adding terms to titles using Edit metadata in bulk

All books is to annex with Edit metadata in bulk a (GE)(stands for German Edition) like in Die Augen der Mrs. Blynn (GE).



I guess that is to achieve with regexes. I was busy for some time with them but don't get ahead.

Got several types of these makeovers.

search: (.+)
Replace: \1 (ge)
Set Mode to Append to Field

The book Die zwei Gesichter des Januars show different results in the column Test result depanding of it is in line Your test or Book 1.



It's my first time with regexes in action so allow me to consult you again.
I see that the test result is okay! The rest also?

Search field: title - otherwise nothing happens.

No, it's not OK. Don't use "Append to field" but "Replace field" in the Mode selection.

Ah, one more question: Did I put in the Your test line something wrong? Was to insert something different than Die zwei Gesichter des Januars.
It irritates me that in both runs the Test result was OK.

IMHO the test line is optional

It is useful for testing for unwanted side effects ( that might appear on longer inputs)

Acurate Test results is what you want. No unintended side effects showing

Why setting the Language to De is not the proper way for the German version?
(US English only reader <Some of the UK versions terms lose me>)

If he only wanted to add a suffix, with Append Mode he would need (.+) => (GE) (Without \1). In the other way, he gets two titles (as it's shown in the picture).

I don't know (I set language too, and if I would like to see at a glance I would use column coloring or if I want to see int in the reader I would add the suffix in the plugboard, but everybody has his/her way).

Test result shows which is the replacement result for the first book, but no the final result in the field. Both searches are OK, as you don't change it, but the final result is different because you're changing the way that result goes to the field.

And sorry if it irritates you that it says OK if the search/replacement expression is right, when it is.

Optionality / longer inputs or not: The Test result in line Your test should show a correct result even it is the unwanted one.

(New example pics (Homer) for demonstration reasons.)

I don't know what are unintended side effects. If the final (processed) result is wrong any u.s.effects are unimportant.

In my library there are books of different original languages but mostly translated to German. To see at first glance that a book with a German title isn't a originally in German written book I add (GE).

Let me present the advantages.

Ilias in 2 languages
It shows at a glance the Ilias in original language (without adjunct) and a translated version: Ilias (GE)

My calibre interface is German in order to understand you better in the forum if there is made reference to calibre interfaces.

There are (unwanted) commas in the Books -> Test results. Take also attention to the Your test result, a single (GE).

I admit to have considered the matter only under the premise of an adjunct. Column coloring or add the suffix in the plugboard you could represent a broad to show advantages. What's with this 'plugboard' idea right now I do not understand.

I see and be amazed. Either you make your CUT Wizard all respect or I see for nothing but results (let it be in tests, replacements, finals, searches or whereever) nothing anymore.

Fact is that only (. +) + \ 1 (GE) + Replace field results correctly so far.
In itself this would be enough. But it seems me that you yourselves still disagree about the different options. If such exist at all.
I look foreward to supply you with any Homer example images only the combinations for the Edit meta information window must be provided.

@chaot, if you look at you picture, you'll see that you have a check near the "Append result", "Split result". If you uncheck it, the comma go away. If you play a bit with the fields you will be able to obtain your desired result.

A thread should always answer the main question. This was here excellent the case - it was shown even 2 solutions.

Nevertheless, the whole is not satisfactory. More questions are opened unanswered, some were not even questioned. Especially to the Search and replace window.
For purposes of self-study I looked to various manual pages: Is there something better than that?

The image is approximately anno 1850. And since the counselee should find the way!?

It allows conclusions to the topicality of the manual and thus to the quality at all.

When new optics / futures placed in calibre the manual can not be aligned simultaneously!? That is in relation to the former work a minimum of overhead.
