Edit metadata in bulk vs search and replace

Hi @all,

I have many times processed metadata by "edit metadata in bulk" and it worked fine. After I've used once "search and replace" the processing of "edit metadata in bulk" no longer works, because every time I click "Apply", the message is

"Error: search/replace invalid - Search pattern is invalid. You must specify a search expression in the "Search for" field.

Processing of metadata in bulk is therefore impossible.

What can I do?

Thanks in advance and regards

A recent update made calibre require a search expression even when trying to do match-all. If that is what you are trying to do, use
Code:
(.*)
as your search_re.

If not, screenshot of what you are trying to do?

@ eschwartz:
many thanks, it works! ... How to find such a solution?

@ theducks:
I am always amazed with helpful moderators in forums, sending so incredibly clever messages. How should I know as a newbie, that there are two categories of editing?
And ... "I will Provide: key words, tips, links" can I start still nothing.
Or do you want to achieve so that I sign off here again?

Regards

I lurk hang out here too much, so I know too much. Half the information I know I will probably never use.

As a newbie, you aren't expected to know. Just do the best you can and if you get it wrong the mods will move it to where it will get more visibility. No offense was intended. (As you can imagine, mods are pretty busy. A side effect of this is that they tend to be terse.)

Another reason for me being Terse, is I am a lousy typer... More words... more chances to mess up

inl1ner that was just an explanation on 'Why'. Sometimes,as others have noted. I do miss and have to put it back.
We see lots of Newbies (and oldsters) that don't always pick the best slot for a topic. Best slot = best chance of a solution
