I think I'll probably be passing on the bundle this time since I already have five of the books (two I got free [they've been free many times] & the rest as deep discounted specials) and would only possibly be interested in one other.

Any opinions on "pay above average" books?
(Question directed at anyone who has read any of them.)

Peachiekene, I started listening to Angel's Ink as an audiobook, and gave it up because the main character had so much angst and kept revisiting his backstory. I can see why many love the series because the plot was intriguing and the secondary characters are enjoyable. I might try the ebook version . . . it could be the narrator wasn't a good choice because he kept reminding me of the Dresden Files and how much more I liked Storm Front, including the narrator.

I already own Curse of Chalion and American Gods (the later not available in the UK anyway) so I'll probably pass. Always worth seeing what else they add.

Here's links to get the the top tier book (Dead Witch Walking by Kim Harrison) for free:It doesn't include the novella, but I can't see that tier being worth $10 for just the novella except to die-hard fans of the series. Maybe they have some super awesome additions planned for the top tier.

I paid the $10 for the top tier not because I particularly wanted the novella, but because from past experience, the HB e-book bundles usually go above $10 for the average price anyway by the time they add the extra mystery books.

So I figured I might as well splurge a bit, potentially save if it climbs higher, and get a bonus at the same time.

I did already own LMB's Chalion book which would have been the main draw, and don't like Neil Gaiman's novels nearly as much as I like his short stories and comics (and AG is a particular unfavourite), and I think I already have that particular Coelho from the time there was a 99 cent sale on 12 of his novels, but I figured it was worth getting the entire bundle to encourage HC to potentially offer more stuff DRM-free and discount bundle pricing in the future.

But I am interested in the Mezrich casino-hacking story (although I wish it were a non-fiction version of such). And I hope they have something nice released as the bonus(es) for next week. I've probably jinxed it now.

It doesn't sound like it applies to you on this bundle (you had other reasons to spend the $10), but as long as you pay better than the average at the time of your purchase, you'll still get all the books in the better than average tier. I've gotten in early on some of the game bundles and got the entire better than average bunch for $2-$3 less than the final average.

In my experience, the average never goes down after the first couple of hours, it just keeps edging up, for both games and books, so buying early can save you money.

On another note, here's some additional info from the Sci-Fi & Fantasy thread about the top tier. The novella is not, as the bundle claims, exclusive to this bundle. It's included in the e-book and paperback of book ten of the series. (The novella takes place between books ten and eleven) It's also available to read on Wattpad. [Thanks to AnemicOak and tilia for posting this info in the other thread.] This really seems like a huge blunder by Humble Bundle.

I just noticed this and decided to go ahead and upgrade to the middle tier. It was cheaper to upgrade than to just buy the one I was most interested in (Wasteland Saga). And I'll get some more books out of it too. . . Not that I need them

*shrug* I don't regret spending $10 US. Still a heck of a deal, and I get to get rid of another paperback.

Well to me, I wasn't interested in the $10 tier books at all, just not my thing. But claiming the novella is an exclusive, when it's even available to read for free, is rather misleading. It might even be considered false advertising. I just expect better from the Humble Bundle folks. (The book being free at other stores wasn't as big a deal, as they didn't try to claim the book was unavailable for free elsewhere.)

On another note, the average is up to $7.18 now.

I bought this bundle, but now cannot get FBReader (either on Onyx or on desktop) to open it (Coolreader-on-Onyx does however appear to work). Anybody else have any problem with these files?

The average price is now at $7.08. However, since the new books have been added, it has been rising.

The new books are:
The Taken - Vicki Petersson
The Dead Run - Adam Mansbach
Sandman Slim - Richard Kadrey

I'm quite surprised they didn't add anything at all to the top tier.
