Just unplug your reader and try again, either your reader or the usb connection is most likely is malfunctioning. Reset the reader and/or trya different usb cable/port.

Done. Changed the cable, changed the usb port, did a switch on/off of the reader and restarted... Now it's again "Sending" since 40 minutes !

You need to do a COLD BOOT/restart. Switching off is just 'standby', nothing gets cleared out.

Honestly I dunno how to do this Cold Boot....
I've done a soft reset (as explained on Sony's website) but I find no trace of this restart mode (or maybe I'm too lazy and I count on you to give me some hints :-) ) |

OK some more tries on my side. For me it really looks like a performance issue.
Some background that may explain part of the performance issue: - my PC is old (7 years) and still running Windows XP SP3 - books are sent to a 8Gb sd card (thus slow) in the reader - calibre contains 2742 books - Around 98% are also in the sony reader I finaly had the end of the metadata transfer during the night: this time it was 114 minutes. If I add all different tries it's above 400 minutes! This morning I retried a new tranfer of 40 books: - 1 min 20s to transfer the books - 105 min and still not finished for the metadata. It's still alive, and I can check that more or less every minute a 'books.db-journal' file is created in the database folder on the reader. Does this ring some bells to you guys ? |

yep, been sitting here myself staring at that screen for more than an hour with and odd 1500 books, but I am using the debug version since I am playing with plugin code. But still, it takes indeed quite a while to process the metadata, both when downloading from the device and uploading to. But I was blaming the debug mode...

![]() Sounds like my first PEz which would error out if I attached it to a Intel 82801 USB2 'enhanced' port, except really much worse than USB1 mode (resorted to installing a separate USB1 only card). My total times were lots quicker: ~6 mins for ~1200 books ![]() What are your Sony device driver settings (screen shot wanted ![]() Preferences: Plugins: Device Interface: <model>: (click the Customize Button) What is the setting on Preferences: Sending Books To Device: Automatic Management |

It is an easy experiment to check if the USB connection or the device is a problem. Use the connect to folder action in calibre to connect to a folder on your main hard disk and send the books there. If that is fast then you know the problem is with the USB connection. If ti is slow, then you can conclude that there is something wrong in calibre.`

Cailbre Preferences is : Sending Books To Device: Automatic Management
For the device, sorry it's in french :-) see attached screen dump. For the experiment, of course sending to a folder on disk is quite faster and in this case there's no metadata to synchronize with the reader's own database. USB transfer of the books is 'quite' fast, it's only the metadata which takes ages. Reading/writing through this same port with Explorer shows no particular problems. Of course there is metadata to sync, look at the file metadata.calibre inside the folder you connect to, it contains all the metadata for all the books you sent to the folder.

Right (of course!) but I only meant that in the case of the reader you have to synchronize with the sony database in addition...
