pdf on kindle (dx)?

I'm looking for an 8" or bigger ereader to read pdfs and other things that benefit from a larger screen.

Does the Kindle handle pdfs well?

And to be more specific: could it handle pdfs like the ones available on www.archive.org?

Suppose, for instance, I'd like to read this book on an ereader:
http://www.archive.org/details/balza...sdro00balziala

Does the Kindle handle that smoothly?

(These pdfs are rather heavy, even on my regular PC it can take a while before they load. But they are beautiful renditions of old editions!)

Well, I downloaded the Balzac book in pdf form to my DX. Pages with illustrations do pause before loading; pages of print are pretty much normal DX/e-ink time.

I'm sorry, I can't post pictures; maybe somebody who can will be able to let you see how the book looks on the DX.

It looks good on my Kindle DX Graphite. I downloaded the BW version. A bit sluggish for a PDF, but readable. I think this particular PDF was not well done when created. It would also look much better if you cropped the margins using a program like A-PDF Crop.

Unless you are just fond of old scanned books, I would download and use the Kindle version of the file instead of the PDF.

Yes, I thought the mobi version looked quite a bit better and easier to read. Pictures were bigger.
