Angry dr800sg back ordered

Placed my order for the 800sg this afternoon, Best Buy said it woud ship in 1-2 days, then just got a email that it was backordered and would be 1-2 weeks, Sure hope this is not another wait like the last time.

Maybe it's the same thing some of us experienced last week which seemed to be a system related issue. Either that or they've sold out their initial shipment which I guess is good news for iRex, but bad news for those of you waiting. Either way, I would guess any delay at this point would be minimal.

Placed my ordered 4 days ago and still BACKORDERED

received email saying 1-2 weeks just like you oneau

I started to feel bored and I find Kindle DX very irritating

I will investigate about Kindle DX handling of Arabic PDF , and if it is fine I might go with Kindle instead.

I guess that either means it's selling well or they only had a handful of units out of the first shipment. Hopefully they'll get stock replenished shortly.

Somebody posted some info on iRex's forum after calling BestBuy. The initial stock sold out and they are waiting on another shipment from iRex, which is supposed to arrive on (I think) 3/18.

Yes. 3/18 is the next ship date for DR800sg stock according to a Bestbuy sales rep. Rep said that I could realistically expect to receive the device 3/25. As of 2/24 there were 66 backorders. Rep could not tell me how many were to ship on that date or how many were sold thus far. Said that an email would be sent in the event that the stock arrives sooner or gets furthur delayed. I sent an email to IREX asking when they would make the next shipment to BestBuy - still waiting for a response.

Best Buy is the only retailer for this device in the U.S.? Seems it will be impossible to keep up with the demand of the entire country once favorable reviews are widely known.

Initially, yes. iRex has said it may eventually be available elsewhere (including their own shop), but for right now it was exclusive to BestBuy.

Best Buy is huge, I don't think that will be an issue. I'm sure they can distribute as many as iRex can supply.

Have you read the few reviews that are already on BB's product page? I wouldn't expect this thing to be flying off the shelves anytime soon.

That's exactly my point...as many as IREX can supply. If there were other retailers, those with excess inventory would eventually be tapped by consumers on the hunt. Waiting for 30 days is discouraging.

7 reviews? People complaining about the same stuff as us, that will supposedly be addressed in an upcoming update. Then what is there left to complain about once the major shortcomings have been addressed. Price, no onboard slot for stylus, poorly fitting sleeve, etc.

Most of the poor reviews on BB's site look like the same people that are complaining here. That's probably why the complaints looked familiar.

I agree that almost all of it was about things that are on their list for the next firmware. Of course, don't base purchasing decisions on future plans, but if/when that firmware comes out it would take care of the majority of the things mentioned in those reviews.

I agree that if IRex can get the software functionality up to what people would expect from a $400 reader, then it will probably sell well, especially if they can get it on display in the physical store. At the moment, however, iRex has this thing way overpriced for what it can do.

Hm, considering it sold out in just a few days, I'd say it's certainly not overpriced. Don't get me wrong -- I'd love to see it at a lower price, but market says $400 is too low to keep suppy/demand in balance.
