Hi, all. Just got a Sony Touch for Christmas. Looking forward to learning about the different file formats, file conversion, sites for downloading ebooks, and other info that I'm sure I'll need but don't even know I need yet. Glad to find and be part of a community of ereaders.

Cheers!

Hi Maria welcome to MobileRead. Nice to meet someone with the same name as me on here (my real name is Maria)! You can download free public domain books right here under the e-books button at the top of your screen. lrf, rtf and epub will work on your sony reader without any conversion. Also check out Calibre a free program for file conversion and library maintenance that you can download on this site as well. Best of luck!

Smile Thanks!

Thanks for the warm welcome. One of the most daunting things so far is that there are so many places to go for ebooks. For print books, I checked four locations: my school library, public library, amazon.com, and bn.com. Now, it seems like I have to search many, many more places! I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Re: what I like to read. . . my interests vary. I like pop fiction (am plowing through the Twilight series now), non-fiction (am also reading Foer's Eating Animals), classic English and American literature, and academic books for school (graduate student in anthropology).

Hopefully, I'll get the hang of this in no time, as I'm really excited to have the reader!

ave the reader!

Maria
You are aware, if your local library has epub or pdf ebooks, you can also read them on your Sony?

Just download them to your computer, and sideload to your reader.

The software is free, you can download it from the library, and the books "close" after the lending period.

Can't get any better! (IF you have a good selection.....)

Hi Maria and welcome to MobileRead. I download books from my public library's web site all the time. There's no charge and you can keep them for 21 days.

Hi, Cassidym! Yep, I just got up and running with downloading books from the New York Public Library. Their search page is atrocious, but hey, who can complain about free? I work at a University, and my next task is to figure out how to get their ebooks on my device. That, and finally settle on a case. :-)
