k for pc 1.17 keeps deregistering
i have this installed thus plus I did various " read only" or dummy file folder tweaks to block auto updates
so I can use it OK, but when I return to it after a couple of days I get a " accept Kindle terms of use y/n "window, and after Yes to that I find it has unregistered. so do I have to accept that inconvenience or am I missing some tweak i also noticed that buying any book or sample from pc web site and selecting send to K for PC will trigger a forced update attempt, so I have stopped doing that. I select send to cloud reader, and then separately manually launch K for PC it is a manageable situation but annoying PS do I have to stay at 1.17 for de drm or will a later version like 1.24 be better and less likely to deregister or update itself. i only use it occasionally, i'd like to not have to repair it every time |

I suggest reading this link
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=283371 At the bottom of post 1 is a .bat file which should help tame k4pc. Good luck. |

i think i must have made " read only" the folder/file where the registration status is saved... that would explain what's happening

yes, i had set the entire " ...app data/local/amazon/kindle" folder to "read only", once k for pc v1.17 had installed.

solved
after more testing and checking last modified dates... the registration data seems to be written to a file called "storage" in the kindle folder. I had made that "read only", so it only stayed registered until the app was closed now, with only the "updates" folder set to read only - it seems to stay registered. [but that's less useful that it was, given that newly published books now require a later K for PC version anyway- well documented in other threads] Last edited by stumped; 01-06-2023 at 10:40 AM. |
