What is the "framework" process?
Hi guys,

Since my update to fw 5.12.1 some days ago I noticed that the battery drain of my PW4 increased dramatically. From a 2-3 weeks of work, to 3-4 days or so.
So I launched top on my kterm... it turns out the cpu is going full speed!!!

In particular, it's the framework process that is taking 80% of cpu time.
Hence the question in subject.

Anyone can contribute?

Check (using search bar) if the device is still trying to index a book or books.
If not, contact Amazon C.S.
If yes, check for either too many books added at the same time and/or one or more "bad" books.

If none of the above, then rinse, spin, repeat and/or contact Amazon C.S.

It's basically the main backend for... basically everything that isn't hardware-related or directly book-rendering related.

You can follow the logs to see what it might actually be doing (showlog -f).

No indexing in progress, and no recently updated books. Lately the only thing I did was to update the firmware (and the hacks, afterwards)

Okay, showlog -f shows to me that is repeatedly trying to connect to the network:

Ah, actually you should know I'm not that new!
Anyway, no the problem was the opposite: it WAS in airplane mode!

I decided to let the kid play over the internet for a few minutes, it did what it had to do, and now cpu consumption is at 5% with some spikes from time to time.
I don't know if 5-10% is okay, but it's way less than before.
Also, showlog shows no more complaints about not getting fun time on the Internet, so I am guessing it's okay....

Yeah actually everything was set: my home network configured, and updates prevented (both in KUAL and with the update.bin.tmp.partial directory).

As I said, though, I was in airplane mode. I set it off for a few minutes, let it connect, then put it back offline. Now CPU is not skyrocketing anymore. Go figure...

So you can confirm that 5.12.1 does not delete update.bin.tmp.partial?

Yep, confirm. The blocking folder is still there after a good 10 minutes (I even enabled the wifi again).

PW4 with jb and fw 5.12.1

Time will tell, but only if someone is paying careful attention.

There is at least one current experiment with 5.12.0 on KOA3 (which may behave differently than 5.12.1).
