Deleting A Collection

Hi,

I'm trying to delete a collection called "Jeff". However when I try to do so I get the following message.


The collection does NOT show up in the library or anywhere else. Checked many times and everywhere - does anyone know how I remove it? By the way there is no books even in it. I tried to put some in and I get the same message, instead it says it can't be modified either.

Help?

Not sure about this one.
Have you tried creating it with same name in library then syncing it then deleting in library see if that works? Just a shot in the dark....

Maybe also try adding a book to the newly created library one, syncing then deleting, if first option doesn't work.....

Tried to create same name in library - no joy.
The eBook software won't allow it (as far as I can see)

Tried adding a book - all I get is the below box:


I'm stumped! Checked again for the multiple time. There is nothing in the Library that has changed, refers to "Jeff" or anything extra before this problem started.

It has to do with synchronizing your collections. The following may help you.

Synchronizing Content with ReaderSynchronizing Content with Reader

The Reader is automatically updated to match the content in a specified folder(s) in the following situations:

• When you connect the Reader to your computer with eBook Library running.
• When you start eBook Library after connecting the Reader to your computer.
• After a period of time if any changes have been made to a specified folder.

When you want to synchronize the content of a specified folder with the Reader right away, you can also synchronize them by using the (Sync Now) button.
You can also synchronize the content of a specified folder with a compatible memory card inserted in the Reader or your computer.
To synchronize the contents in the specified folder automatically

1. Start eBook Library.
2. Turn on the Reader, then connect the Reader to your computer using the supplied USB cable.
   eBook Library starts synchronizing the content in the specified folder with the Reader automatically.
3. When you want to synchronize the content in the specified folder with a memory card in the Reader, insert a compatible memory card into the Media slot of the Reader.
   eBook Library starts synchronizing the content in the specified folder with the compatible memory card automatically.
4. When you want to synchronize the content in the specified folder with a memory card on your computer, insert a compatible memory card into the memory card slot of your computer.
   eBook Library starts synchronizing the content in the specified folder with the compatible memory card automatically.

Hints

• If you start eBook Library after connecting the Reader to your computer, eBook Library also starts synchronizing content in the specified folder with the Reader automatically.
• After a period of time if any changes have been made to the specified folder, eBook Library starts synchronizing the content in the specified folder with the Reader or the compatible memory card automatically.
• When synchronization is enabled, eBook Library will automatically update the device to mirror your library every time you connect your device to your computer. • Synchronization time may vary based on the number of content items selected within the Sync folder(s).

1. Click "Sync" on "Reader," "Memory Stick on Reader" / "SD Card on Reader" or "Memory Stick on PC" / "SD Card on PC" in the Source view.
   The View area is switched to the Sync preferences view.
2. Click (Sync Now) in the Sync preferences view.
   eBook Library immediately starts synchronizing the content in the specified folder with the Reader or the compatible memory card.

To delete synchronized content

The synchronized (content icon is displayed next to the content) can be deleted only on the computer which had synchronized the content with the Reader or the compatible memory card. The synchronized content can be deleted when eBook Library synchronizes with the Reader or the compatible memory card after the specified folder has been unchecked.
Hints

• PRS-505 device allows you to manually delete synchronized content directly on the device. If this action is performed, previously synchronized content will not be re-transferred to the device during the synchronization process. In order to reset this setting, remove, then re-enter the checkmark next to the specified folder containing the specified content you want to re-transfer.
• When you disable synchronization, eBook Library will automatically remove the previously synchronized folders and content from your device the next time you sync. In addition, if you manually delete a file that is in your Library, the file will also be deleted from your device during the next sync process.

Notes

• The synchronized content can be deleted only on a computer that has synchronized the content with the Reader or the compatible memory card. Synchronized content cannot be deleted on another computer.

Thanks for posting the above info.

I've read the above three times now and I'm confused as heck. Its not very clear stage-wise is it?

Forgive me for being stupid. Can anyone tell me what to do in clearer steps.
The reader is connected to my laptop at the mo, do I leave it plugged in, out, when trying to delete the "Jeff" collection?
I have an sd card slotted in as well, do I remove that too or leave it in?
Except for it appearing on the reader software just once, I can't find it anywhere else.

Where does the "sync" sync to... on my computer/sd card?

I've been at this now all day since this morning.
If I push the "Reset" at the back, will that get rid of the darn thing?

Okay, not sure how much you know so will start with the basic outline.....Im sure someone else will jump in with more info too

to create a collection in the main library you need to highlight LIBRARY in the left pane, then click the + sign at the bottom left......

First try this though as it should solve the issue.....

With the reader connected via USB and switched on, open the eLibrary. In the left pane you will see the reader show up...........click the triangle next to it to expand the info for it. This should show you what collections are on there and synced ones have the sync symbol on them. To delete one click the sync symbol in the reader info. This should show you a list of collections in the right pane. 'Jeff' one should be there with a tick in the box. Untick the box and that should empty it on next sync then allowing you to delete it from the left pane by right clicking on the collection 'Jeff'..........

let us know if this works...it should do as it will show all collections on the reader............and allow you to un-sync the 'Jeff' one allowing you to then delete it.

I sort my collections by adding them to the main library then clicking the sync symbol on the reader in the left pane and ticking the boxes I want synced on the reader. Unticking the boxes will allow emptying and deletion of collections. As you have found, while a collection is synced you cannot delete it. Very odd that the 'Jeff' collection isn't in the library section though, that one has me stumped.

It helped.

"jeff" did eventually appear and low and behold I was able to delete it.
To be honest I'm still not sure why it didn't appear many times before but with all your help here, I eventually managed to get it.
MUCH appreciated. This stupid fool can't thank you all enough.

I still have loads of questions but this is not the section for them.
