E-reader as a Monitor News Thread

Hey,

SOMEDAY I would like to use an e-ink e-reader as a monitor for writing, programming, browsing and similar. I am setting up this thread to keep up with the latest technologies/e-readers that accommodate this capability. Hopefully it will prove useful to some of you and you will help me to update it!

For convenience reasons I will consider only e-readers with bigger screens (>=9.7).

So:

1. Dasung Paperlike - most commonly known, designed to be used as a second monitor (no e-reader capabilities). Personally I find the refresh rate lacking for programming and more complex tasks. Lately it was reported that Dasung sold out all Paperlikes.

2. 2017 Dasung e-reader - Forthcoming e-reader from Dasung that will have a "Mysterious function". Most people expect that it will have some kind of display port. Dasung reports that it has 2-3 months of software testing ahead before next phase (release?). I am looking forward to more news from them.

3. Onyx Boox Max Dual Touch - Booxtor reported that the new version of Onyx Max will have a capacitative screen and a HDMI port:

This is great news, Onyx is a company with many years of experience that released many successful e-readers. Their latest e-readers N96 family and Max are impressive, I hope that Dual Touch will keep it this way.

4. Jing Page X - a 9.7'' e-ereader with the fastest refresh rate I ever seen on the e-reader. it remains to be seen if it can be used as a e-ink monitor.

Great thread. When do you think is Dasung going to release their new E-reader ? Wanted to go with the paperlike but 800 bucks for a monitor and monitor only is so much.

Also, Liquavista/Amazon is planning to release their new electrowetting displays but for some reason they just won't put it out. Would be an amazing thing because electrowetting isnt as expensive as E-ink and on top of that you'd get a fast refresh rate.

I also wanted to thank for the thread! I can't believe there is not more consumer demand for this..

I am checking news around liquavista every month since they announced in 2006 that they would release a product, just sayin..

Yeah the good thing about electrowetting is the fact that it would be much cheaper than E ink with a fast refresh rate but at this point I'm not holding my breath anymore because it's probably not coming anytime soon. I'm thinking of getting a pixel qi screen or using the kindle dx as a monitor
