Help with PRC format
The monthly free TOR book is a .prc file instead of .mobi, so won't email to Amazon DOCS folder. Can I just change extension or is Calible conversion needed?

_mobi.prc.

Just rename to .mobi by chaning _mobi.prc to .mobi.

Yes, if the PRC (Palm ResourCe) file contains MobiPocket eBook data then simply changing the extension to .MOBI will work.

In "ancient" times there were a few other ebook formats that used the Palm Resource data structure and .PRC extension, though most at the time used the Palm DataBase structure and the associated PDB extension. The ancient PalmOS only allowed PDB and PRC files in the main storage volume. I haven't seen a PRC in the wild that was anything other than a pure MOBI file in well over a decade.

You're just confusing the issue. The is a Mobi format eBook be it named .prc or .mobi.

Yes. The Tor.com ebook in question is actually one of Amazon's 3-in-1 ebook files.

It's a Kindle ebook file with a weird suffix, and in fact it contains an Epub, a KF8 Kindle ebook, and a Mobipocket ebook.

So just change the suffix.

Very sorry - I didn't have my Send To configured correctly - when I fixed, if went through as a .prc and looks OK on my Kindle.

But the Amazon sendtokindle help page doesn't list prc as a supported file type?

Adobe PDF (.pdf) can be converted to Kindle format and delivered on an experimental basis.

So how does one pull out the ePub? i was easily able to separate the KF8 & Mobi no problem.

Uh, if KindleUnpack actually extracts the Epub rather than converting to Epub then yes it is a separate component inside the same file.

No, you misunderstand. KindleUnpack extracts the data that comprises the KF8 component of the book and repackages it in an ePub wrapper. There is no ePub until KindleUnpack creates one.
