Does this jailbreak's bridge need update?
Hello.
I think this jailbreak's bridge was last updated on March 16, 2016. I am on 5.4.5 pw2 9017 model. I was wondering if an update is needed to the bridge sine the last line of the first post reads March 16,2016 so as to survive latest kindle firmware auto update. The thread is here see the first post last line. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=186645 |

@mixedbag: Probably not. On the other hand, it's trivial to update, so why not just do that (EDIT: with a snapshot build)?

I tried runnning tar.gz file as it is in root directory and typing :installHtml but nothing happens. I think because i jailbreak using 5.4.3.2 universal old jailbreak and then upgraded to 5.4.5 it is not taking tar.gz file for jailbreak.
Then i also tried putting latest hotfix in both the root and mrpackage folder in root but mrpackage destroys it and in the root it doesnot show update your kindle. So i guess, I would have to take the bridge file of march 2016 as the only latest jb update for 5.4.5. I also notice it had uninstall file as well, should i uninstall the bridge and then run hotfix from the Snapshot thread.? Last edited by mixedbag; 07-16-2016 at 03:52 PM. |

Now go back and restart the downgrade jailbreak procedure from the beginning, and do the steps EXACTLY in the sequence provided. Last edited by geekmaster; 07-16-2016 at 03:57 PM. |

Plus we do not support:
device: none here. = = = If writing about your old PW-2 model, just follow the special direction sub-section. And the answer to your question is: No The recent updates to the 'bridge' (contained in the 'hotfix' package) where only for additional model support (KOA - which presents some special challenges here). Good catch. I falsely presumed he was using a recent-ish kindle.
I strongly recommend that when people ask for our assistance, that they say WHICH KINDLE MODEL (our nickname) they need help with. Otherwise we must guess from the requester's "Device:" list and/or any other information we can presume (such as firmware version). Last edited by geekmaster; 07-16-2016 at 04:10 PM. |

Should i then consider that bridge will not get any update and hence people on pw2 5.4.3.2 factory image should not use universal old jailbreak for 5.4.3.2 firmware and instead go with the universal generic jailbreak to receive jailbreak updates via hotfix frequently?
I guess that would mean removing Universal old jailbreak for pw2 on 5.4.3.2 from software jailbreak thread to avoid complications and confusion at point 4 a of the first post for pw2 users. That would avoid confusion of two ways to jailbreak at bay and use the better and recommended way of generic jailbreak to receive jb updates. Last edited by mixedbag; 07-16-2016 at 04:06 PM. |

NO, NO, NO -
Nothing has changed to jail breaking devices running firmware 5.4.4.2 or older because it all still works just the same as last posted. Use a consumer firmware version and the appropriate OLD thread to jailbreak the OLD firmware version. Try the jail break sticky index thread if still lost. With a sob of frustration, the technical documentation writer logs off. |

@knc1 to my knowledge when we are at factory image on pw2 5.4.3.2 there are two ways to do the jailbreak before you update to 5.4.5.
One is using the old universal jailbreak for 5.4.3.2 and then you upgrade to 5.4.5 and then run the latest bridge. Second is you use the generic jailbreak while on 5.4.3.2 and the you immediately run latest hotfix and then you update to 5.4.5. I have used the first one and i wanted to make sure if amazon updates the device to 5.8.x, would i be still jailbroken considering i use the first method? |

The old universal jail break INCLUDES the update bridging code. That is what makes the jb survive the upgrade to 5.4.5 No need to do anything else. Quote:
Read the directions again - What does step #4 say? Keyword: downgrade. After step #4 you are no longer running whatever firmware version you where running, you are now running what you downgraded too. Which in the case of the PW-2, is version: 5.4.3.2 We hide that information in the file name. ![]() Is version 5.4.3.2 newer or older than 5.4.4.2? It is (now) older. So use the older jailbreak. and then What part of "skip the next two steps" did I mis-type? Quote:
Note the current firmware version - Start over with the appropriate thread. |
