Sci-fi and Fantasy paperback Door Stopper novels
For my purposes a door stopper novel is any hardback or paperback that are over 1000 pages in length. Thus it is possible for the paperback to qualify while the hardback does not. What are the best door stopper sci-fi and fantasy paperback door stoppers. These books are so big they could be used to prop open a door. Some of the candidates that come to mind are Robert Jordan, Terry Goodkind and Brian Sanderson. However for my purposes I disqualify Robert Jordan since he is dead. For my purposes the author must be aliver and writting.

Almost everything written by Peter F. Hamilton, but I suggest the Night's Dawn Trilogy (sci fi). Each book is massive. The Stand by Stephen King Almost every Tad Williams book is close to or over 1000 pages in paperback, or split at publication. |

I read his Memory, Sorrow and Thorn series back when it first came out. I remember that it was really good and really depressing. It was one of the few series that I thought was good that I couldn't bring myself to re-read (though I might give it a shot since it's been a long time since I read them). I keep meaning to give the Shadowmarch series a try.

Descriptive. Most of his books could easily be a hundred or more pages shorter and lose nothing of the plot. That being said, I enjoy his prose enough that the extra description doesn't bother me.
I still think his Otherland series is one of the most brilliant works of sci-fi/fantasy ever written. |

I recently finished Pandora's Star and Judas Unchained by Peter F. Hamilton. It was good...one long story spread over 2 books. Each book is about 1000 pages.

I'd say the downright largest set of sci fi books I've ever read would easily be Harry Turtledoves World War series but I can't remember page counts and it was actually 7 large books for the whole thing. I'm including Homeward Bound and the colonization series.
I did enjoy it and found the whole plot idea kind of neat (basically alien invasion which happens during World War 2) but as a read it's similar to "A song of ice and fire" where you are constantly jumping between different characters each chapter and there gets to be a lot of characters to keep track off. |

The greatest science fiction novel to date, in my opinion, which coincidentally could also club rats of considerable (if not unusual) size, would be Neal Stephenson's Anathem.

Anathem and Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson, has others have said, are great and over 1000 pages each.
Seveneves by Neal Stephenson is also very good at just under 900 pages....don't let the magic 1000 page threshold deter you from reading it. |

Both Pandora's Star and Judas Unchained by Peter F. Hamilton are door stoppers. The good thing is they go together as a duology.

Haven't the accurate count, but Steven Eriksons Malazan books should be above 1000 pages. There are 10 books in the finished series. Ian Esslemont writes in the same Universe, most of his books are above the count too (6 more books). Both have started a new series in the universe each.
George R. R. Martins books are doorstoppers too and very good. Fantasy is full of doorstoppers ![]() Tad Williams books are doorstoppers too and quite good. I liked the more sci fi otherworld books more than the fantasy books. The fantasy books are very well written, but very traditional and therefor little bit boring regarding the big story arch. |
