Any way to unmerge a book record?

Why do authors have to give their own books such similar names?

At some point the book records for Clive Cussler's Treasure and Treasure of Khan got merged. All of the metadata except the cover is for Treasure of Khan but the cover is Treasure. Luckily I didn't just overwrite the cover and actually checked both the EPUB and MOBI files. The EPUB is Treasure of Khan, the MOBI is Treasure.

Is there any way to easily unmerge these two? Particularly without overwriting the metadata for Treasure which might still be correct. Or is this one of those rare times where I should go into the file directory, copy the MOBI file to a different location, then in Calibre use Remove Format to prevent any errors, and then reimport the MOBI file of Treasure as a completely new book record?

Thanks! I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a better way that I wasn't finding before I did it.
