[KA1] Does some sort of light slider patch exist?
The light slider in the KA1 is very hard to use, IMHO. I never go above 20 because the light gets too bright, and it's almost impossible to slide to a value such as 13.
Therefore I basically only have the following light levels, using the plus and minus buttons: 0-5, 10, 15 and 20. Does some sort of patch exist that allows me to set the slider in 1% increments, using the plus and minus buttons? (And ideally, the far right setting would be as bright as 20 is now.) |

GeoffR's patch includes making the slider move in 1% increments when you use the + and - symbols next to the onscreen slider. You can read more here.

I too miss the Brightness fine control patch.

Right now for my Glo HD I'm on firmware 3.19.5761 and thankfully the brightness fine control patch is still part of it. Are you saying once we might hit 4.+ for the firmware (which could take well over a year to do actually), it won't be possible even on the older readers? Or is it a quirk of the KA1 where it's not possible to implement?
Honestly I'd avoid upgrading if I lost that brightness adjustment. While it's livable as is, it's so much more pleasant an experience with the patch that gives us the precise control. |

Not only that, but basically 80% of the slider is lost, because everything above 20% is useless. 100% is bright enough to light the ball room in Castle Shönbrunn.

Is it possible to set it precisely with a change to the entry in the Kobo eReader.conf file where the FrontLightLevel= line is? Or is that no longer in the file for the KA1 or the newest firmware?
Of course that would only work if you pretty much keep the setting the same at all times. |

The light is now best set using the slider. You have to get roughly close enough to where you want. The higher you get the more it jumps. Near the top end, it jumps 5% at a time or so.

I did say it would only work if you set the light once and kept it at that setting all the time, which is exactly my situation. I leave the light on even in bright sunlight, it just makes the page appear whiter, which is still very comfortable for my reading, and it's still at the perfect level for nighttime reading as well. Or when the train passes through long tunnels.
I doubt I'm the only one who sets it once and forgets it, so it just might work for others who leave the light at one setting like me. |

Is there any difference in how the brightness adjustment slider works in the 4.x firmware compared to the 3.x firmware, other than the buttons adjusting in 1% steps from 1% to 5% and in 5% steps above that, instead od 10% steps everywhere?
On my Glo with firmware 3.19.5761 I set the brightness level by dragging the slider until it is close to the value I want, and then rolling my finger a bit to do the fine adjustment to the exact value. Is that not possible with the 4.x firmware? |

The only change to the light slider I have seen is the change in the steps. That should work as well as it ever did.
