Do you read LRF because you have to?

Who downloads and reads the eBooks posted to MR in LRF because you are only using a Sony Reader PRS-500 that does NOT support ePub? Personally, I think LRF is a dead format.

I didn't even know you could still get LRF ebooks. Sony dropped that format years ago. I agree, that format is about as dead as it gets.

You can get LRF here on MR. Crutledge is still converting to LRF. But he posted in another thread about a sometimes problem with the Calibre conversion to LRF. I'm trying to convince him that LRF is dead and LRF doesn't need to be made. The only people that need LRF are PRS-500 users who have not updated it to be able to handle ePub. There used to be some people who used Sony Readers and preferred LRF over ePub. But that was back in the early days of ePub.

Sony dropped LRF in the Sony Reader starting with the T1. Up until then all Sony Readers could handle LRF. The x50 line was the last line from Sony that supported LRF.

Why? Who is harmed by the availability of books in a predominantly unused format? Let him decide if it's worth his trouble to make them or not.

There are sometimes problems with converting to LRF via Calibre and the person who used to maintain that part of Calibre no longer does so.

None of which has any bearing on the sentiment I put forth. Why try to convince someone NOT to do something they apparently see value in trying to continue to do? Especially when doing so (or not) affects no one but them (and maybe a small, appreciative group of LRF aficionados)?
