How much ghosting on new paperwhite is normal?
I am new here and I recently bought a paperwhite. I used to have a sony prs t1.
With the paperwhite I have the option of refreshing after each page turned of but then I notice that after a few turns I am getting Some sort of ghosting from the previous pages. With refreshing on this is not. But I really like the option of not refreshing after each page, but I do not like to see vague letters from the former pages. Is this type of ghosting normal or is my screen perhaps defect? Hope somebody can tell me more before I contact Amazon. |

Ghosting is normal.
Personnally I prefer refreshing on every page turn as it doesn't bother me at all and I find text to look sharper. |

Ghosting is entirely normal, but it's generally only really noticeable where there's empty space on a page (eg at the end of a chapter).

Thank you for the quick reply. It is indeed more noticable on a blanc piece of the paper. I than can see the lines from the previous page, but because I am not used to It because of the wat my Sony worked I thought because the paperwhite has this option it would not have this. After a page turn of 10 it becomes more and more visable and to be honest it bothers me. I was hoping it was a defect so that when I get a new one it would be over, but after reading your comments I am a little bit disappointed with the screen.
I know I can turn page refreshing on, but with the light on the black screen gives a flash that bothers me while reading. With light off it is no problem. So I now have to think about what to do. Will I accept this and turn page refreshing on to avoid this and have the flash when the light is on or am I going to look for another brand.... |

Another brand of reader won't make any difference; all eInk screens have ghosting. The vast majority of users simply don't notice it after a while.

Most paper books have this issue too.
![]() Ghosting is NOT "normal", but it is the standard behaviour for the current level of e-Ink technology. Full page refresh shouldn't really bother you that much. Set it so that it refreshes at each page turn and after a while you'll stop noticing it. The page refreshes in the time it takes for your eyes to go from the bottom of the page to the top, which is still significantly faster than turning an actual page from a book. |

I've always set my ereaders to refresh after every page, based on my own unscientific theory that it would be easier to get used to something that happened regularly rather than sporadically.
I did get used to it very quickly and now I have to try really hard to see it. I never did test the six-page option though. |

Thanks. I am going to give the page refreshing a few days to see if this works for me with the kindle. With my old prs t1 this was no problem.
