Question Extract all books from Calibre?

Is there a way to extract just the books/Epubs files from Calibre, without going one by one to each folder manually?

What do you mean by "extract" - where do you want the epubs and for what purpose? You can select multiple books and do a "Save to disk", but I'm not sure whether that's what you're looking for.

I want to extract all the books into another folder so I can make a backup. I don't need covers and metadata for that just the Epub files.

Metadata takes up no space, covers barely any. Storage for 3000 covers wouldn't even crack a gig. I don't understand why you would bother stripping them just for backup?

Save to Disk has a preference to NOT send covers,OPF as part of the transfer.

But as been mentioned: These are typically small er than a book and the contain information that may not be in the book itself.

IMHO KISS, Just backup the whole library folder

1T drives can be had for less than the cost of 38 'Pikes in Grande size'

@Kaylee - if you lose your entire library then it may be possible to rebuild it from the EPUBs. But it will be a lot of work and you may not be able to recover the database in its entirety.

IMO - The marginal extra costs in disk space and time to backup the entire library so as to mitigate the risks of not being able to achieve a complete and full recovery of your library would be a worthwhile investment.

I keep two forms of backups:

1 - The library as a whole. So I can quickly reinstate my library once I have to kill over my library comp...

2 - a backup of the eBooks (mainly ePubs) with metadata properly updated (modify ePub is your friend), because I've run into database getting corrupted due to a sync job (yes, I sync the library pretty much automatic...) gone bad and had to redownload out of three stores :F

I tack 1 on a NAS and keep 2 around on a seperate USB stick which I drop off in a safe.

I have a VBS script that uses calibredb to export (copy) the epubs into a single flat folder, and the azw3 into another single flat folder

Code:
calibredb export --all --dont-save-cover --dont-update-metadata --dont-write-opf --format azw3 --single-dir --template "{authors} - {title}" --to-dir .....
http://manual.calibre-ebook.com/cli/calibredb.html

The script might not be exactly what you're looking for, but checkout the calibredb program

You could if you are very careful do a search for all epubs etc. and copy them to a backup directory but why, will come back to bite you in the ass possibly with an interrupted copy etc.

I archive mine regularly and keep a pretty current copy in several places. I keep every format and a zillion (it seems) PD books and with original file tweak on so my backups are in the 50 gig range but I'd rather be safe than sorry.
