Auto extract

I have an e-books collection with .rar and .zip files. Each archives contains multiple formats (lit, epub,...) and a folder for .html files. Is there a way to auto extract the archive when adding to calibre?

Not as far as I know. Rar/zip files holding a single ebook format get auto-extacted but not those holding multiple formats.

itempi has it right.

1 Archive = 1 book
a Single HTML book wil be put into it's own archive (to keep all the pieces together), so you can save a step and leave it that way.

Winrar has an option to "unpack here", that removes the outer layer (leaves Zips and Rars inside, intact, so:
copy the Archive to a empty folder and un-pack. Then Import into Calibre.
(shift) Delete the contents of the folder after verification that imports were successful

and repeat with next archive
