Kobo Glo/Calibre conflict

I'm having a major Kobo Glo/Calibre conflict. The Kobo has always interfaced with Calibre until the last time I tried loading books. Here is the message I get:
Error: Incorrect destination, with the following message: "The reader has no storage card A. You may have changed the default send to device action. Right click on the send to device button and reset the default action to be "Send to main Memory." When I try this, the "Send to main memory" is bolded and Card A and Card B are ghosted. After following the instructions, nothing changes, I still get the same pop up. Called Kobo help, but that is a joke. I tried resetting the Kobo to factory, but that didn't help. I tried a fresh Calibre load, no help. My Asus transformer has no problem D/L'ing books from my Calibre app. Has anyone out there experienced this? Can anyone help me? Thanks.

Do you have an SD card installed in the Glo? If not, the error sounds reasonable. It suggests you had previously set the SD card as the default and removed the card.

What happens when you manually choose where to send the book? Select a book, right click on the "Send to device" button and select "Send to main memory". If that works, then the it is a configuration problem

To make sure you are doing what the error wants:

- Right click on the "Send to device" button.
- On the menu, select "Set the default send to device action"
- On the sub menu, select "Send to main memory"

The menu will close. The next time you press the "Send to device" button, it should send the selected books to the main memory.

Thanks Davidfor. As far as I know Kobo Glo doesn't have anywhere to insert an SD card so there was never one used. When I click on send to main memory and then re-click my book choice, it loads. Then I must go through the same procedure for every book. I have done exactly what the drop down menu asks, but keep getting the pop up error. To work around I must click the "send to device" icon, which gives me the pop up error, then follow the directions on the pop up error, and then re-click the book and most times it will load. However, after the one book loads, I have to go through the whole procedure for the next book. I'm thinking a program error has developed within my Kobo.

Check for a slot on the left side of your Glo near the bottom. You can insert a microSD card there. The original Kobo and Kobo WiFi took a full size SD card, all other Kobos except for the Mini take a microSD card.

Unless you are seeing a Device and Card A icon for your Glo, I would be more likely to suspect a configuration error in Calibre. You might want to try removing the Calibre configuration files (the Calibre factory reset):

Code:
1: start calibre. Go to preferences -> Change Calibre behavior -> advanced -> Miscellaneous.
2: choose 'open calibre configuration directory'.
3: quit calibre -- this will leave the directory open
4: create a backup directory elsewhere and copy all the files in the directory. This allows you to get restore your settings.
5: delete all the files and directories showing in the file explorer. The files will have names like gui.py, gui.json, global.py, iterator.pickle, save_to_disk.py, etc.
6: start calibre. You will be started in the welcome wizard. If your library isn't in the default location, you'll need to tell Calibre where your library is. All other customizations will be lost as well.
Good luck!

Regards,
David

DNSB has described where the micro SD slot is on a Kobo Glo. If there isn't one, you don't have a Kobo Glo.

This is all happening in calibre and the operating system on your PC. So, there is nothing wrong with your device. If you followed the instructions I gave to set the default send to device location, it should work. If it doesn't, there there is something wrong with the calibre installation. In that case, follow DNSB's instructions for clearing the configuration directory. If that doesn't work, uninstall calibre and reinstall it.

Thanks DNSB and Davidfor. You learn something new everyday. The Kobo belongs to my wife and I guess I never looked at it closely before, but you're both right, there is a mini SD slot.
DNSB, I followed your advice, but didn't take it as far as your instructions. After clicking on Preferences, Misc.,I clicked on "Get information to set up user defined device" and followed the directions. Worked. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

The instructions I gave are more or less the nuke and rebuild - I needed to do that after I moved Calibre to a new laptop and things went oddly wrong.

I had thought your Kobo's information should have been read the first time you connected it but good to hear that you finally have it working.

Regards,
David

Problems with Calibre should be posted in the Calibre forum

That probably should be worded: Calibre has always interfaced with the Kobo.

Called Kobo help, but that is a joke.
Even more humourous that you expect Kobo to help with a program they didn't write and which they would have no firm knowledge of what it might done to your device.
