3g problem for the kindle dx
I just bought a new kindle dx graphite. I can use it to connect to the wikipedia and can shop in kindle store, but I can not connect to any other websites. The error message is "Due to local restrictions, web browsing using the Experimental Web Browser over 3G is not available in all countries". I also owns a kindle keyboard wifi+3G, and I registered the kindle dx the same as my kindle keyboard. There is no problem of web browsing for my kindle keyboard. So, what is the problem of my kindle dx?

No problem. Different Kindle models have different 3G restrictions. I have a Kindle Keyboard and a Kindle Touch; the Keyboard has unrestricted web browsing, the Touch doesn't. That's just the way it is.

No, there's something wrong. If you can use the K3 to web browse, the DX should work as well. There was no restriction on web browsing until the Kindle Touch debuted. I don't think it's a clean, new-looking DXUS (that you might have received by accident) because (IIRC) Wiki would not work either if you were outside the US.

If it were me, I'd contact them again, make sure they know that the K3 works and the DX doesn't. Then, I would give them two options: 1) swap it or 2) return my money. The web browser is of limited value without the ability to connect using 3G since the DX has no Wi-Fi capability.

Over here in Germany, my KDX (that was about 12 months ago I've bought it, now it's sold again) has always been restricted to Wikipedia and Amazon's own website. All other pages would bring the error mentioned by the OP. So the general statement about "no restriction on web browsing" is definitely wrong. It might hold true for e.g. the US, though.

Many thanks to the replies. I think I should contact another amazon kindle support person. When I have the answer, I will make it known at this forum.

No, I can only speak about the KDXG. From all I know, restrictions for the K3G in germany are/were similar. There weren't Kindles that I know of that have been sold neither in nor to Germany. So that point holds valid, restrictions are comparable. I just wanted to make the point that restrictions can be pretty normal in some areas or for devices sold on a certain market region.
