Later on Kindle problem

Hi there, I have recently been very excited to discover "Later on Kindle" an extension for Chrome which places a neat Kindle icon on the browser and with one click will send (via email) any open pdf from the browser to your Kindle. However while the extension apparently works well for other users I find that the extension fails to parse the page correctly, and the object to be emailed is not recognised as a pdf. I would love to get this to work but I can't find any help online about it and no-one else reports any problems.

As a concrete example, I am trying to take the pdf from

http://arxiv.org/pdf/1103.4620

which opens in the Chrome browser (I'm running version 10 on a macbook with OS X Snow Leopard) using google's own pdf reader plugin (I suspect my problem may begin here - although I can't get any other pdf reader plugin to work smoothly with Chrome). I have enabled the lateronkindle@gmail.com email address within my Kindle management page. I am not asking Later on Kindle for a conversion to Kindle format (the box is unchecked). Upon clicking the Later on Kindle icon a new tab is opened which is heavily shaded but within which the following message can be read:

"Unable to parse this page for reading content. Delivered by Later on Kindle."

If anyone reading this has any ideas I'd be happy to try them out. And if anyone else can get this extension to work for them I'd be happy to know that too.

Many thanks for any ideas.

That particular PDF could be just pictures of pages, in which case it isn't convertible to text. Only PDFs that are text-based will convert.

Wonder if it is because the file does not have a file extension (though it has pdf mimetype). When I do 'Save As' I have to add '.pdf'.

I have not encountered this problem myself (apart from replicating with the site you reference) but I haven't used LOK that much.

Thanks for your comments (and the welcome!). After some trial and error I have had some more success with the Later on Kindle extension, but only on Windows. As a researcher I was very interested in getting pdf's from the arxiv server quickly from my browser to the Kindle. With this I still have no success, but I can report that it appears to be a problem with the arxiv server rather than Later on Kindle. Specifically if Later on Kindle is set to convert to Kindle format (even though this may seem a bad idea for a mathematical pdf) the Kindle is sent an "Access Denied" message from the arxiv - the message explains that there are permission problems with accessing the pdf file in the way that Later on Kindle does and suggests workarounds. So I will consider writing to the administrators of the arxiv.

More positively, at least on Windows, and maybe also on the Mac (I have not tried yet), pdf's can quickly be sent to the Kindle in pdf format using Later on Kindle. So my optimism for this extension is restored, although it would be very good if a solution could be found for the arxiv server.

Once again thanks for your replies.
