French speaking Canuck saying Hi!

Hi! ;-)

Stephane here.

New in the ebook world. We, girlfriend and me, just bought ourselves a pair of Kobo Vox.

Looking around for places to buy french version of ebooks for the Vox seems like a little challenge for now.

It also seems to be almost mandatory to learn to jump through hoops to actually read them on the Vox. Almost as fun as actually reading them. lol

Taïaut!

Welcome Stephane!

Think the Als have a chance to three-peat this year?

Hi and thank you!

From your info I would have to guess the Als are the Alouettes? Three-peat for? The Cup? The finals? Sorry, not a sports fan. I have no idea. Isn't their quarterback getting old? lol, I think he said it himself on some talkshow the other day. Not sure.

Hello. I'm fairly new to this e-book stuff too, but I've found a few sources of books in French (I'm English, just wanting to improve my French) through the sticky threads at the top of the French section of this board.

Yes, I looked briefly into it just after I posted this introduction. A little bit of lag in regard to the new releases but a great collection available nonetheless.

I think the French ebook market is a bit less advanced than the English market, but now Amazon.fr is selling the Kindle, I think it will catch up.

I notice that Project Gutenberg French classics aren't as comprehensive as the English ones. I hope that will catch up too.

Yeah, hoppefully amazon will kick our publishers's ass a little

For books in french, there's kobo (kobobooks.fr), fnac.com, http://www.epagine.fr/, virgin, feedsbooks, smashwords.

What do you means by jump though hoops ? The Adobe activation part ?

I've found a few of the fnac books weren't for sale outside France, so I don't tend to use them much now.

Hmm, well, I think it would not be politically correct to elaborate on the subject, but let's just say there are ways to find new releases in French that are not readily available through the "official" channels if that is what you must read (girlfriend is like that, what love makes us do!)...

I am more into Taoism/Tantra/Alchemy books and I don't mind to read them in English, so it is quite straightforward in my personal case.

I see what what you mean. There are lots of books just not available as ebooks, even from well know authors.
