Calibre and Sony PRS-T2: Anyone using it?
Hi all, I've never tried Calibre, but I'm having issues right now with the Sony Mac desktop software. I'm running OSX Mavericks.
This is my issue: I really love the Evernote functionality on the PRS-T2 device. It allows me to highlight quotes I like and it sends them to my Evernote account, which I can access on any device that runs Evernote. However, I'm starting to have issues with the Sony PC/Mac software client. I don't know how annotations work: How does the Sony software store annotations? For some reason, I have multiple copies of e-books on my PRS-T2. I just tried deleting one by using the PRS-T2, but it deleted all the e-books on the PRS-T2. I don't understand how ebooks are kept in Sony Reader software on my Mac. I see four tabs at the top of my screen in the Sony Reader software: 'My Library', 'Reader Store', 'More Content' and 'Reader'. I just changed the filename of two e-books so I could check how they're stored on the PRS-T2, but the filenames weren't changed. I hope I can continue using the Sony Reader software as I don't like the idea of using something that's not supported by Sony. |

Thanks for your post.
I don't like the idea of trying and seeing because I'm worried that I'll delete e-books or cause some other irreparable damage! |

you will not lose anything. calibre will not move any of the books from the MY documents\My Books folder that sony uses, it will only make a COPY of them i n its own library if you tell it to.
It will not delete any books on the T2 unless you tell it to & even them it will probably say - are you sure. But close the sony reader software when you are using calibre & vice versa, to be extra cautious |

Alright, thanks.
I still want to be able to use the Evernote functionality on the PRS-T2. Can I still do this if I use Calibre? Does Calibre change anything on the PRS-T2? The Sony software is a bit annoying, but I can still read e-books and use Evernote to upload quotes and that's all I need to do. I don't want to mess up the whole thing when it works, but for a couple annoyances.... |

calibre does what you set it up to do. e.g. you can have it completely manage the metadata on the reader, automatically, so that it will create collections subfolders etc. or you have set that stuff to manual & DIY - it is all in the user guide + in other threads here.

I used the T2 for a while, though not on mac.
The Evernote functionality should work ootb without you using the software, though I am not to speak there, I'm a tad paranoid when it comes to cloud services :E). Calibre itself works as far as you want it to. You can copy the books you crrently have on your device (I held my entire 3,5k books library on device and ion sync with calibre, you can download books from your local ebook store, add them to calibre (unless they use some method of DRM) and them push them to your device... Basically you can wrap up everything around calibre but the firmware updates. And the only thing calibre changes, is the ebooks when you move them around. |
