Kobo Libra Color gets hot when charging...

I recently bought a KLC and it been working well for 6 months but now it wont turn on after a overnight and I noticed it gets hot anytime i charge the kobo between the charging port and the button nearest to the port. I have done everything I can do from hard manual reset to trying different charging cables to chargers bricks and nothing seems to work in getting the kobo to turn back on from its "sleeping screen mode while doing different power button holds.

Is this normal, and what part is causing the issue systemboard or battery? and I know what part of the systemboard is getting hot as i tested it. Any help would be appreciated please and thank you

That's not normal. Sounds like it's not charging either and the battery is shot so it won't turn on. You should contact Kobo for repair if it's still under warranty.

If you are in a country with 1 year retail warranty from sale of Goods Act or similar, get it replaced. Seller has to pay postage. EU, UK and a lot of other European countries.

This is a serious fault.

You may want to look at iFixIt's Kobo Libra Colour Repair for parts, costs and guides. From your description, it sounds as if it is a motherboard issue since the area you are describing is where the power supply (JD9930) chip lives.

This is the area thats getting hot marked with the arrow, i guess its more near the buttons but that spot you mentioned does get abit warm but the heat is generated at the spot i mentioned and when i mean heat its a "burn to the touch" as if you touched a hot metal rod.

I'm not certain as to what purpose that chip serves but on my KLC that area does not get warm when charging.

Are you sure? It should still be a 1 year warranty and if you've only had it 6 months then it should be covered. Even in the US.

They might still offer an out of warranty repair that may be easier than doing it yourself and cheaper than an entire new unit.

Im unsure why does get really hot on that chip but is it safe to say i need to replace the systemboard only? and will the battery be affected too incase that needs replacement.

Impossible to know without additional information.

A "warehouse deal" is marketing. If it's a retailer's sale to an individual you have the same rights as a local shop sale, at least. Amazon are a retailer.

Well amazon warehouse deals tend to be a month timeframe for returns and only extended for holidays. So i think i fall well pass the replacement window.

Try Kobo anyways.

Just because you bought a warehouse deal, doesn't mean the warranty vanishes. Worst case they won't give you an RMA and you wasted a little time.
