So, I am now thoroughly confused. So in the attached screenshot, there is a red % off, but it's from "print list price". So is this likely to be price-matchable, or not?

I find myself reluctant to count on Kobo giving me a refund, even if I haven't downloaded it...

According to other users here, yes. If the discount is based on the digital list price, that's when you can't price match it. Make sure you send Kobo a screenshot with your request.

On the form I use I don't think I can attach a screen shot. But I do always mention that I have one.

In the UK/EU there are laws on remote selling which mean I'm confident that Kobo will refund if they won't accept the price match (provided I haven't downloaded the ebook).

I don't know if there are any similar laws in the USA.

The US price match form has an "attachments" section, where I presume you could upload a screenshot. The page doesn't seem to filter the file extension, so you could in theory upload an MP3 of yourself reading Moby Dick if you wanted to, although I doubt that would help your case much.

I don't see a way to attach anything.

Thank you. And BTW, I don't see anywhere to attach anything, but like @pdurrant, I always mention that I have one, and have had to produce it via email a couple of times. So far, always ultimately with success...

It appears that the attachments field is only visible when you block JavaScript from zdassets.com. If I allow zdassets to execute scripts, the attachments field disappears, and a black "Your Privacy Settings" banner appears at the bottom of the screen, instead.

FWIW, I have since done three different price matches in the US, all looking like the example I posted, and all three went through without any issues.

Price Match and VIP Points

Does anyone know if they deduct VIP points when you buy a book at the higher price and then get the price match refund? It didn't seem like it, but I wasn't keeping track of my total points at the time.

I don't know either - I've never kept track. I suspect we get points for the original price and no reduction in points when the price match comes in. But I don't have any evidence.

Have you checked your points history to see if a deduction shows up?

For what it may be worth, I checked my points history and did not see any deductions other than book purchases using points and one occasion back in 2018 where I was given a KSP Top Up which was removed 2 weeks later when I hadn't used it. My history went back to October, 2015.

Oh! I didn't know a history was available,

Superpoints do not appear to get deducted on a price match.

For example, on 2nd July I bought The Books of Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin for £20.99 and got 839 points. I price matched for a refund of £20.10, so in credits the net cost was £0.89. No points were removed.

But add in the points gained with the 4000:£6 points conversion (VIP membership), that means the net cost of the book was -£0.36!
