Kobo Price Match experiences

Have you tried Kobo Price Match? How did it go for you?

I have done about 15 price matches this year, and 13 went fine, including one price matching a £14.99 book with a £0.99 Amazon offer.

The other two needed a little sorting out, because I tried to price match two very similar books in the same order, and they got a little confused.

What's your recent experience, good and bad?

Kobo has stopped offering price matches for Kindle books that are "discounted" -- those that have a red percentage next to the price, and a crossed out "Digital List Price".

I asked Customer Service if they'll accept a similar price discount on Google Play's book store, and they said yes, but I haven't tried it yet.

The rule of thumb is not to download the book until the price match is approved, to allow you to ask for a refund.

What does it look like when Amazon is having a sale that's valid for Kobo price matching?

I got a price match for a book on Tuesday, and the pricing part of the page at Amazon (UK) was:

Name:	pricematchok.png
Views:	105
Size:	45.2 KB
ID:	214819

This was a Daily Deal one-day sale. I've checked my other screen shots, and the pricing part of the page was similar for all of them.

I do recommend always taking a screen shot of the competitor's price, just in case.

From my experience, Kobo agrees to price-match Kindle books where either:
1) There is no red discount percentage next to the price
2) There is a red percentage next to the price, but the crossed-out price has the label "Print List Price" (and NOT "Digital List Price")

So far this year, I've had no problems with getting price matches (apart from remembering which computer I made the screen shot on...)

This is with Daily & Monthly Kindle deals.

Feels like such an own-goal from Kobo's leadership. I mean, realistically, there can't be that many people fleeing Kindle from the D&T removal, can there? Seems like someone on their end just saw an uptick in the number of price match requests and they decided to put the kibosh on it, not realizing that they just massively deflated their own momentum for Kindle refugees that were eagerly switching to their platform.

Thanks for the insight. Hopefully Kobo will update its price match TOS so we don't have to keep guessing what the new rules are.

Here's an example of a title that I think isn't eligible.
The comic book We Called Them Giants is currently $19.99 on Kobo and $10.98 on Amazon.
On Amazon it says:
Quote:
-45% $10.98
Digital List Price: $19.99 (The Digital List Price is the suggested price provided by the publisher for the eBook format.)

Another example:

Midnight Robber is currently $2.99 on Amazon with a discount from a "Digital List Price" of $17.99.
It's $12.99 on Kobo and I'll doubt they'll accept a price match.

Just successfully completed a price match on Linda Barnes' Heart of the World: 99p on Amazon.co.uk (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Heart-World.../dp/B07MJDWG86) as notified by ereaderIQ.

£5.99 on Kobo UK: https://www.kobo.com/gb/en/ebook/hea...0-7bacb29d60b1

I think Amazon's UK website never shows the red percentage, so it's possible Kobo's support team can't follow their guidelines and always allow it, even if the discount is Amazon-only.

It's $7.99 on Amazon.com so obviously a UK-only deal.

I meant an Amazon-only deal in the UK market.

I can't find the Price Match offer today on Kobo Australia. Has it been discontinued?
