Same here.

My process for most books:
  • Rent from the library, if possible (preferably as an ebook).
  • If I like the book enough, I purchase it as an ebook.
  • If I really love the book enough, I purchase it as a physical book as well, used if possible. Some books I've gotten really nice versions of (or I'm saving up for them).

Not me. I don't like to read paper books anymore and so I don't see any point in spending money on something I'm never going to use.

That said, I still have quite a lot of paper books. Many of those (Estonian books, mostly) have no digital edition or the ebook is just too expensive. I've replaced most of my English-language paper books with ebooks (as English ebooks are a lot cheaper than Estonian ones). Even so, I plan to keep the paper editions of my old favorites, but I no longer buy new paper books. If I happen to love a book I only have as an ebook, so much the better - less clutter.

This is my new process as well, now that all my shelves are sorted and purged. I have a little reading area set up as a "den" and it's really nice to sit in my comfy reading chair with my ebook reader and see the pretty fancy books (mostly LOTR and other classics, and some favorite authors) on my shelf.

Plus the addition of Kindle Unlimited in step 1, for now that subscription is still useful for me even though I'm generally moving away from Amazon for ebooks (and everything else.)

I voted: Other answer that doesn't fit here because may be:
  1. Yes, and keep the physical copies
  2. Yes, to replace damaged/missing physical copies.

I generally prefer the ebook.

I put the poll as multi-option.

I replaced many of my paper books when ebook prices were often low and cleared out approximately 40 boxes of paperbacks that were stacked everywhere. Those that were priced too high or were unavailable as ebooks I kept. I'll replace them as they become available or the price drops. I'm approaching retirement home age. No room for piles of books in one of those places.
