Amazon may want you to update your version of K4PC or K4Mac but it is pretty easy(*) for either platform to block the update. This is rather well covered in the Dealing with Kindle for PC/Mac 1.19 and KFX in calibre stickied thread in the calibre forum. Once you have it set up which does not take that much time, the process is automated and takes no extra time.

* The pretty easy is in my opinion. Other's opinion may vary.
