Kindle DX and Dropbox
I synchronize and backup my important files using Dropbox. One of the great things about this is that I can access all these files with my iPhone. I was wondering if Kindle DX can also access files (I am mainly interested in pdf files) stored in Dropbox (Kindle 1 could not when I tried even in the Advanced browser mode). Any Kindle DX owners out there who also use Dropbox who can test this? (You may want to give Dropbox a try anyway, it works beautifully).

I don't know but are you able to access stuff directly through links? If so, you could try puttin a link to the files you want in a document on the Kindle. You may be able to get them that way.

I will try it but the idea is to have access to all files (without knowing what the links are and having to type those in). Kindle 1 doesn't read pdf files natively anyway - I was trying it only to see if it is worth getting the DX.

I can login in desktop mode. The file browser requires javascript, which I enabled, but I don't see a list of files. When I click the 'files' link I get a 404 error. It doesn't seem to be working..

Can you try typing in a link to a pdf file (though this will not be as useful), as Alisa suggested, just to see if it works? Thanks.

I've tried that before and it doesn't work. The browser lists supported file types and PDF isn't one of them.

I think I will stay with my Kindle 1 and wait for an alternative to appear on the market (Plastic Logic?, Apple Tablet?). Thanks for your help.

This is definitely a great idea though, you cant do it at the moment but it's something that needs to be mentioned to both Amazon and Dropbox. It could be a problem at both ends for all we know.

I don't have a kindle so I'm not sure about this, but doesn't Savory let you download PDF files through the browser? If so, porting it to the DX could solve this problem.

If dropbox (which I love too) isn't Kindle browser friendly then maybe SugarSync is?
https://www.sugarsync.com/ They have a mobile version of their website. |

I posted up on this PDF problem in another thread on SugarSync. It looks like an odd limitation of the Kindle DX's Basic Browser not supporting PDF downloads.

PDF's are potentially significantly larger than kindle text files - the whispernet agreement with Sprint is probably the mitigating factor.
